Converting existing EV Charger installation to CT Clamp mode

I’ve had a GivEnergy solar + battery system for about 5 years. I think the inverter is a Gen 1 or 2 3.6kW inverter with a 5.6kW battery. It connects to an EM115 CT clamp inside my consumer unit.

After my 3rd or 4th Zappi charger failed for exactly the same reason and fell out of warranty, I decided to switch to the GivEnergy charger to fit my existing installation (it wasn’t an option when I first got my solar installation).

The fitter set it up in the “use the cloud to determine when export is available for car charging”. This made the most sense at the time, it was a more simple job, let the inverter do the work.

Now I don’t want to rely on the cloud so much so want to look at switching to CT Clamp monitoring for determining when export is available.

My question is this:
Can the EV charger be connected to the same EM115 CT clamp as the inverter at the same time? Does the comms protocol happily deal with both the Inverter and EV Charger trying to communicate at the same time?

I am trying to add the GivEnergy EV charger, but during the setup it fails to register the charger with my account. Has anyone else experienced this? I have an AC3.0 inverter with a 9.5kWh battery and a SolarEdge inverter for solar. The EV charger is connected to the same EM115 meter as the GivEnergy inverter. When setting up the EV charger, I’ve selected the ‘CT Meter’ option. I have tried resetting the charger to no avail. Any suggestions?

No. You can’t share one CT meter between an inverter and an EVC. Since you can get one easily from https://owen-brothers.com/ it’s hardly worth worrying about. Once you get it installed (in the right place so that you don’t charge your car from your battery) you just need to change your EVC config in the app
