Hi
Does anyone know why, in Home Assistant, I can read data fine via the GivTCP integration, but cannot write? It is driving me mad…
Thanks!
Hi
Does anyone know why, in Home Assistant, I can read data fine via the GivTCP integration, but cannot write? It is driving me mad…
Thanks!
if you give us some more info system and how you are trying to write to the inverter would be a big help,
At the moment it’s a bit like saying how long is this bit of string and the answer would be haven’t a clue didn’t know you were holding a bit of string
Sorry, yes that would have been helpful!
I’ve got an AIO v1 and I am just using the HA GivTCP v3 integration. The strange thing is that it works the first time I setup the integration but not any other time. The IP address of my inverter (and HA system) is static, so I can’t understand what is going on.
Thanks!
Are you trying to control the AIO or the Gateway from givtcp? If you only have one AIO then you need to control the AIO only, if more than one, the gateway.
When you say “I cannot write”, as Michael said, more information needed please.
How do you know it’s not writing?
What are you trying to write?
What do you see in the givtcp log and the portal remote control log?
Are you on Intelligent Octopus Flux or are you using any other form of inverter scheduling such as the smart tariff card in the portal?
Thanks for the reply, I currently have a single AIO.
When I try, for example, to set the max charging rate via the GE app, I can immediately see the change in HA.
When I try to adjust parameters in HA, this seemingly has no effect in the GE app.
I’m on Intelligent Go so no battery related management is going on. I’ll look at the logs - assuming I can find them…
Likely that the app won’t notice that the settings have changed as it didn’t make the change.
Step back and understand the hierarchy of things.
If you use the givenergy app, it sends its commands to the portal, and the portal in turn sends the commands to the inverter.
All good, everyone in sync.
GivTCP talks directly to your inverter and changes the inverter settings.
Your inverter sends details of its data to the givenergy portal every 5 miniutes
The portal retrieves details of the inverter settings as part of this interchange, notices that settings have changed and records these in the portal as ‘external change detected’
The app still has the old settings it last retrieved from the portal (before the change). Probably if you close the app and force it to reload the settings when it next loads it will update itself, but by default I suspect it doesn’t.
If you want to check that givtcp is working, either use the BBC basic inverter app or check the givenergy portal for ‘external change detected’ in the remote control log
Hi, Did you manage to resolve this? I am having a similar issue and not having any luck finding a solution. Edit: in case it is useful, I found that GivTCP had not automatically filled in the serial number of my inverter in the allsettings config file. I edited it directly using the file editor app and then everything worked as expected.
Hi
Yes I did - the advice above was invaluable, I hadn’t quite understood (or was just impatient!) about how the communication works. I can now see the changes I make in the GE app albeit delayed by a few minutes.
Glad you got it working too ![]()
