Hi, I moved into a home on 1st October 2025 with a GivEnergy inverter and battery system (as well as solar). The prior owner started a ticket on 30th September to start the transfer of the inverter to my GivEnergy account that I created, however I have heard nothing since. I was told it would take 5 working days and it has been almost 4 weeks now! I have called and emailed multiple times but cannot get through to anyone who can help me, only a reception team that say I will be called back but never am.
I am beginning to despair as one of the main reasons I bought this house was for the savings of the solar system that I cannot use as GivEnergy are keeping it from me… If I can’t get this to work I will need to have the inverter and battery replaced so that I can actually use my solar! Please could anyone help me out?
Sorry to hear that
Just to correct you though, the solar panels, inverter and battery should all be still working, its just you can’t see the status of them nor can you control any forced charging or discharging (and you’d need to be on a smart tariff to benefit from that).
Have you connected your inverter to your new wifi? Guides on YouTube for how to do that.
@TheDragon are you able to nudge GivEnergy support to get this onboarding done. Thanks
Unfortunately, I cannot apply for a smart tariff until I can connect my inverter, which requires it to be connected to the account. The inverter has been connected to the WIFI as per the guide. I should note the ticket originally raised was #127410
Depends what smart tariff you are looking for. Only Octopus Intelligent Flux requires access to your inverter login, all of the other tariffs from Octopus, Eon or whoever just set the tariff up and you’re charged the new rates from that day. A portal account isn’t required at all.
OIF has the advantage that you don’t have to worry about controlling your inverter, Octopus do that for you (hence needing the account login), but of course they control it to their benefit not necessarily yours. In the summer when you are generating lots of solar OIF is a good tariff to be on, the day export rate is good and the evening peak export (that Octopus control) is even better.
But as we get into winter and solar generation drops off substantially you’ll see no/very limited benefit from OIF as you won’t be exporting anything and import is all at a relatively high rate.
It all depends on your daily house load, solar panel size, battery size, etc, but generally OIF isn’t recommended for winter. If you have an EV then either Go or Intelligent Go, or Economy 7 can be good if you have sufficient battery to last most of the day.
Okay but I still have the issue of not being able to control my inverter to my benefit as GivEnergy has not transferred it to my account… For instance charging the battery in off peak
I see the ticket, and I was actually convering with Beth, previous owner i think.
I now see the newer ones started a new thread, I will take these off the SD and look at them
Had she replied to the previous, I would have seen it directly
Thank you, just let me know if you require anything from my side. Eager to get this sorted!
Done this for you on behalf of the service desk
Just been going through this and the helpful nudge from The Dragon to have Support pick up the ticket is what seems to have got things going. Good luck keep at it and well done The Dragon again again.
Cheers
Regards
Paul.
