Stuck on "Connection in progress" with Intelligent Octopus Flux & GivEnergy Battery

Hi all,

I’m on Intelligent Octopus Flux and have been for about a year with zero issues—until about a week ago.

It seemed like the battery wasn’t receiving smart control instructions from Octopus anymore, so I attempted to disconnect and reconnect the integration via the Octopus app to reset it.

Since doing that, the reconnection appears to be stuck. Octopus seems to have access to read data, but isn’t actually taking control:

  • App Status: The Octopus app correctly reads the battery’s real-time status (charge level, whether it’s idle, charging, or discharging).
  • Connection Error: However, under the GivEnergy System tab in the Octopus app, it has been stuck on “Connection in progress” for 5+ days. I’ve tried disconnecting and reconnecting a couple of times within the app with no change.
  • GivEnergy Portal: The GivEnergy portal confirms that Octopus Energy has full API account control permissions, but I am no longer receiving dispatch instructions (Kraken schedule).
  • Hardware & Connectivity: Internet connectivity is solid (WiFi dongle is a solid blue light; both the GivEnergy and Octopus apps update battery stats reliably). I have also tried a full power cycle of the inverter, battery, and dongle, which didn’t help.

Currently, I’m having to manage the battery manually (setting discharge from 16:00 to 19:00, then switching back to Eco mode for the rest of the day).

Note: My dad, who lives right next door and is on Intelligent Octopus Flux with a similar setup, is experiencing the exact same “connection in progress” issue starting around the same time.

Octopus customer support hasn’t been able to resolve it yet beyond escalating internally and suggesting I contact GivEnergy (I have contacted both GivEnergy and my installer).

Has anyone encountered this specific state before or found a way to force the Kraken onboarding/handshake to complete?

Just out of interest, does the Inverter portal “Remote Control” page still inform you (at the top of the page, adjacent to “JUMP TO LOGS”) that your system is controlled by a Third Party?
After an IOF comms ‘glitch’ a couple of weeks ago, and after restarting the Inverter, I’ve got full Kraken control again, but no longer see that Warning message.
The original comms problem seemed to start shortly after my account upgraded to PREMIUM in early June - and that date has changed again, for some reason:

A further aside, as of a couple of days ago, I’m now seeing the following Info message at the top of the Remote Control page:

Remote Control is unavailable due to Settings being locked and controlled by Octopus. This inverter is being controlled by a different application.

So, sort of back to how it used to be.

Hi, thanks for the update. exactly the same message has come up for me too on the Remote Control page i.e. “Remote Control is unavailable due to Settings being locked and controlled by Octopus. This inverter is being controlled by a different application.”

Which is good, assuming you’re on the Intelligent Octopus Flux tariff.
