Hi,
My dad has the system at his home. His wifi was updated, and Virgin helpfully changed the SSID. I’ve managed to reset the wifi details on the battery system,
But the EV Charger is proving … difficult.
I’ve re-started it and connected to its wifi station, gone to its mgt site - the 192.168.4.1
But someone has put a password on that page that isn’t 12345678 or anything obvious.
Is there anyway to reset that password so I can login and change the wifi details?
On the QR code there are three lines of text. The top line is the EVC serial Number The second line which starts EVSE is the user name for the hot spot you are trying to log into on 192.168.4.1 The third line of text on the label is the hotspot password.
Yes i’ve connected to the wifi,
Its not that password thats wrong.
when you go to the website the 192.168.4.1 one - to update the home’s wifi details, it prompts for a password. Its that password thats not working for me.
So you have fired up the hotspot entered EVSE??? as the user name and then entered the password (third line of text on the inverter) once logged in you are then able to Enter the SSID of your Wifi and the Wifi Password I obviously cannot help with either of the last two items
When you get onto the evse hotspot and go to its mgt website - the 192.168.4.1 site, it prompts you for a password.
That password has been changed. its not 12345678 or anything i can guess.
its THAT password.
All the others I know!
hence - is it possible to factory reset the evse, so it resets that management password?
Do you have access to the GE App on your Dad’s phone? If you do follow these instructions
A strong WIFI signal is required at the site of the EV charger at all times during installation and also to the phone doing the installation.
Turn the EV charger mains supply off and then on again. (Listen for the beep)
Launch the Givenergy App that has already got a valid SSO login created and works correctly
From the App menu select EV Charger
Select Start Setup
Scan the QR Code on the side of the EV charger
Turn Off DATA on the mobile phone being used for the install
Enter the home WIFI SSID for a 2.4ghz WIFI network that is strongest at the EV charger location.
Enter the password to gain access to the WIFI connection (selected in step 7) then click connect
9.* Choose Option A EVC installed with internet connectivity and mains supply only (Givenergy’s current recommendation)
Enter The Max size of the fuse in the Meter Cupboard usually either 80amp or 100amps (check first) and choose WIFI for the connection type.
Complete the install it can take quite few minutes of the app with a rotating symbol be patient it has not locked up.
A notification message will appear on the GE App phone and the portal saying the EV charger is installed
This comment is of no use whatsoever but I had the same problem with my friend’s EVC, could not log into web portal page at all. Tried 12345678, tried the codes on the label, tried contacting Giv when they still existed and they didn’t have any new suggestions either.
In the end, I had to reset charger (still didn’t reset password for web portal) and we figured out a way to connect it via Ethernet from a wireless hub in the garage.
Long shot, but make sure you’re pressing the log on button on the screen of the device you’re using to log on to the EVC when it’s in AP mode. It doesn’t work when you press enter on the keyboard! Also there is a factory reset procedure which involves flicking a switch inside, with the cover removed. I don’t know the exact procedure, but remember reading about it when I coded my GivEVC into home assistant after GE went bust. It may help you… worth a try!
GivEnergy is an absolute nightmare. Why it should make a procedure so complicated for just a internet provider change is ridiculous and their online instructions are useless.
We had the same problem for months and could not resolve even with a computer technicians help.
i found out that our energy supplier, Octopus, who had arranged the installation for us would provide real help. (Thank Goodness!)
I contacted them and they sent out a Technician to reset all. He was unsuccessful the first time but Octopus sent him out again and he took quite a while working his magic and was successful. (Sigh of relief).
He tried to explain what he did but as a simple non tech. person it went well over my head.
Octopus said that they will deal with any further problems under their service agreement.
It is interesting to note that Octopus stopped using GivEnergy soon after using their products for their installations.
If you know who installed your GivEnergy equipment I am told that they should know how to reset it.
Good luck.
If you have a QR code sticker, the default password for that unit is the last 8 digits (numbers after hyphen). Suggest to keep a photo of QR code sticker, as this might get washed away with age/rain.
I can suggest few other alternatives, as I had a similar incident and resolved by doing a factory reset.
