5.0 inverter to 6.0 inverter

appreciate the 5kw is only 3.6kw output upp’ed to 5kw when the battery is fully charged and plenty of sun that then enables the inverter to output up to 5kw.

but why can’t it output 5kw direct from the battery when the house load asks for it and there is no generation at all?

the battery has the ability to output that surely?

would be handy in instances like this -

I’ve just seen that GE do a 6kw inverter now.

does the 6kw have the same limitation as neither the datasheet for the 5kw or the 6kw state the 3.6kw limitation, only that they can doe 5000w or 6000w respectively -

if the 6kw does not have the limitation, i might upgrade to be less reliant on the grid when cooking!

I cannot find this 6KW inverter on the givenergy site !!!

There is an 8KW one : https://givenergy.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/UK-Datasheet-Hybrid-Gen-3-8kw.pdf

And yes this does 8KW DC via the “Backup Terminal” unlike the 5KW inverter which only does 3.6KW

So it seems the new inverters run a lot better that then older ones !

ahhhh, the midsummer datasheets do not show the outputs which the givenergy ones do!

I don’t get why it would have the same output as the 3.6kw model. it must be a software limitation surely?

looks like the 8kw will be the next purchase then!

charge the battery quicker off the grid and increase the house load capacity too.

I think it’s more hardware related… 3.6KW at 16A vs 8KW at 50A !!!

But the 5KW inverter can do 5KW combined output otherwise why would it be a 5KW inverter?

5KW from fully charged battery in conjunction with PV generation when the house load asks for it as opposed to exporting surplus generation = Combined output of 5KW through the inverter.

so if it can do that. Then it must be a software limitation limiting the output to 3.6KW.

I get the export to grid limitation is 3.6KW and this works to this to be compliant to g98/g99 etc. But thing is, it can do 5KW output when the sun is out and the battery is charged. So it can recognise the difference between export to grid vs what is the house load and giving the house 5KW.

If it can do all that. Then arguably the 5KW inverter should give us access to 5KW house load if the battery has the charge to give it. Which would be beneficial this time of year when no sun after 5pm and making dinner.

3.6KW is into the Battery… so it can actually do up to 7KW from Solar…

ie : I generate 7KW solar… and use the following :

1.5KW - Ticking Over
3.6KW - into Battery
2.5KW - iBoost

so all 7KW used

nice!

i only get 4.5kw on great days.

how do we get to propose to GE to see if the 5kw inverter be improved?

Ha… I suspect they will just say buy a new model !! ( thats what I would say )

My stuff is only 12 months old - so will just live with what I have as it was OK when I installed it.

With solar there is always something newer and better around the corner, if it works for you as it is do you need to change it really ?

I have 430W panels at the moment and 600/700w ones are coming to the market that are also more efficient… it just never stops, if my stuff lasts for 7-8 years it would have paid for itself and brought my bills down to Zero !

And that for me is all I want/need

Ours got installed August last year.

I need 5KW and up on output. 8KW will be great. I will be looking to upgrade once it is released.

I’m not so fussed on PV. I want to charge cheaply off the grid and use it all without needing the grid except to charge.

I’ll fit the old inverter at my parents with a battery. :joy:

There appears to be some confusion between ‘string’ and ‘hybrid’ inverters.

It is only the ‘hybrid’ inverters that can connect directly to the batteries with a specific charge/discharge port.

The ‘string’ inverters just convert the DC voltage/current to mains AC voltage/current with no storage capability.

yeah i spotted the difference when @armstrn2 pointed out they could not find the 6kw model and the links to datasheets they provided had the detail i could not see.

no confusion here, we both know the 5kw inverter is a hybrid and cr*p at its job.

I think the 5Kw and 6Kw gen 3 inverters are then same item, just one is ‘software’ limited to 5kW.

Mine says its a 5kW model, but when interrogated says it’s a 6kW

I’ve seen my 5kW one passing 7.5kW, 5kW to home/grid, and 2.5kW to the battery
