8.2 battery not charging to full capacity after firmware update on 6/11/2025

Hi, wondering if anyone else has had this: my hybrid inverter 3.6 gen 1 installed a firmware update at around 1am on the 6th. Since then the battery reports to be fully charged after only an hour mains charging, which is impossible as it should take over 3 hours. In reality it’s only charging to around 30% of its true capacity and then reporting 100%.

I’ve reverted the settings to default, done a full system power cycle and ran a battery recalibration. Unfortunately the issue persists. I called on Saturday to report it, was given the normal troubleshooting url by text, and called back this morning to try to get the issue logged and progressed. Not had an acknowledgement from GivEnergy support yet, other than verbal assurance from the helpdesk agent that they’d be in touch.

Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat.

Inverter Firmware Version
D0.449-A0.449

Battery Firmware Version
3020

this is an OLD firmware version, the latest published Gen 1 firmware is D0.450-A0.451 G1 Hybrid firmware revisions | GivEnergy although there are later beta software versions (I’m running one). I had 450/451 on my inverter when I first got it, 3 years ago.

Not clear why your inverter should actually downgrade itself.

In the givenergy portal, do you have the option to upgrade the firmware back to 450/451?

That’s interesting. It did seem to update automatically, so possible it may have reverted it from it’s own memory cache somehow. Also, I’m quite sure the last time I did a firmware update I told it to install manually through the portal, though this was years ago.

There are no updates awaiting installation at this time. Seems I might need to look into a manual upgrade.

Will updating the dongle help with this, do you think? I got the Givenergy installer app, might give it a go.

The dongle upgrade is recommended to improve connection reliability but I personally have never upgraded my dongle software on the basis that it works fine and I’ve heard stories of people having terrible trouble getting their dongle to connect. I fear breaking something, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fiddle!

Very strange it has installed that version and isn’t offering you a newer version in the portal. Looks like you will have to do a manual firmware upgrade :crossed_fingers:

Looks like there’s no download for the hybrid gen 1 firmware on their portal Installer resources | GivEnergy

That’s a little worrying considering that I’ve seen people complaining about needing to wait for weeks for support from GivEnergy.

strange that the Gen 1 isn’t on there

I looked at the web archive, and even the oldest capture of the site didn’t have the firmware on Installer resources | GivEnergy

I think you’ll need to contact givenergy support, or maybe your installer might have the files?
Some people have reported faster support response via facebook; I have no personal experience of this though

Yeah, I’ve been in contact with support already, not had any actual support yet. From the looks of things I might be waiting weeks. So I guess I’ll just have to keep hammering them, unless anyone out there has the D450-A451 package they could share with me…

your installer updated your battery firmware not GivEnergy and it needs a calibration which you can set up yourself

your inverter firmware isn’t the issue, and I would be very wary of updating it if it hasn’t been a problem

Anyway, I’ve had another look. The battery version is 3020. This is the update log on the remote control - logged as an Automatic Firmware update. I haven’t heard from my installer in years, and there’s been no need for them to intervene in this sense.

I’ve had a look at the dongle though, and it only contains the MSN text file, and no firmware ARMstore.bin or DSPstore.bin files on it. This is contrary to what their video suggests How To Manually Update Firmware - Gen 1 Hybrid Inverter

try doing a calibration as suggested by Michael, the option is on the givenergy portal

I have tried calibrating it already. Twice.

I have a gen 1 hybrid inverter with an 8.2kWh battery. When I updated the battery firmware base on a web request, it upgraded to 3022. This gave me problems and the battery failed to discharge when used every day, it stayed at 100%. I contacted GivEnergy and they helped. They tried re-calibrating the battery and that worked for a few days and then failed again. So they updated the inverter firmware to D0.450-A0.451 and re-calibrated the battery and it has worked properly ever since. The only problem is that I keep on getting my inverter notifications on the web but no actual notifications.

you should have been on 450/451 anyway as this is the most recent publicly available Gen 1 firmware

the notifications but no notifications is due to a change in later firmware where it charges the battery at the top end and the BMS gives a warning of over-voltage.
GivEnergy have said that this is a spurious notification and it’s not damaging the battery. Rather than fixing the notification logic the notifications have just been suppressed in the portal so you get alerts that you can’t see :man_shrugging:

This ended up being resolved with a replacement battery, which is a 9.5kWH model - so I’m happy.

Apparently it was something to do with wandering cells/not all charging at the same rate.
