My inverter is showing a solid green light but nothing is working
No grid , battery or solar is indicated on the front panel
Dongle is constantly flashing and can be seen on my router but the portal indicates my system is offline and has been for 8 days
It’s been reported to GivEnergy via email and on watts app but no contact as been made by GivEnergy support
I have purchased a new Dongle and followed the reset instructions found on YouTube but still no inverter activity
Anyone got any ideas how I can get my inverter operating again.
I had problems with my dongle. I discovered that it was a network problem. I set up a network repeater within range of the dongle and then set the networks on it so there were separate 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks. I then connected the dongle to the 2.4ghz network and it has worked ever since. I worked out that dongles cannot connect to networks that have more than one nework, e.g. 5ghz and 2.4hz, as the router has.
I have had the installation engineer around today who got the Givenery support team on the phone
we carried out tests to ensure the dongle was connected to the network which I proved it was by showing screenshots of my Router and confirming I could remotely connect onto the dongle
It looks as though the dongle is operating ok and receiving power over the usb port but the communications card may be faulty as it appears to be doing nothing..
I was asked to connect a USB cable directly from my laptop to the usb port to see if I could see any files on the inverter but the usb port did nothing.
Attaching the dongle directly to the laptop the usb port is discovered straight away as an external drive and I can see a text file on the dongle which I should have also been able to see on the inverter but I couldn’t see anything at all
Im now waiting for an update from the support team but suspect this will need a engineer visit from Givenergy
the givenergy dongle can ONLY connect to a 2.4GHz network
modern wifi networks put out both a 5 and a 2.4 signal, usually with the same SSID network name. If something tries to connect to the 2.4 then the router will redirect the device to connect to the 5 GHz because that’s usually a better, less congested, frequency
the givenergy dongle can’t accept being sent to the 5GHz so the connection fails
the fix is to disable the 5GHz network on your router, let the dongle connect, and once connected, you can turn the 5 back on and it should work fine thereafter. This had me stumped for hours until I worked it out
also recommend setting a fixed IP address for your dongle on the router to stop it having to renegotiate if it gets disconnected.
worth having a wifi repeater as you have done to ensure a strong signal for the inverter
