AIO 2 extension battery compatability

I was wondering if there is any compatibility for the AIO 2 extension battery to be connected to the older AIO. Looking at the product specs it would appear that I need to replace my entire existing AIO (and gateway?) setup in order to be able to add the extension battery. This is pretty sad as, when I had the AIO installed, I was told by givenergy support that the expansion batteries were coming and I bought my original system based on the future extension capability.
Is there any option for adding more capacity to my system? I have read about having two AIO’s installed in parallel; however, I have also seen that this is not always a stable setup and I believe that it is still in beta (since 2024!).

Two AIO (version 1’s) controlled by a single gateway is a fully supported system. There are several people that have that configuration and from what I read, it works well. You get double the inverter throughput as well as double the battery storage

I’ve never seen anything about separate battery packs for the AIO 1.

I have 2 AIOs, running brilliantly. There are people running 3 of them without issue too. It’s definitely a supported setup from GE.

Correct, AIOx3 is fully supported. I have one in the lab, running the Lab during the day.

I have a AIOx2 at home, with Gateway.

Ok, I must have missed the announcement that parallel aio’s came out of beta. Thanks for highlighting that!

Where can I find info on this setup an what it entails?
Do I have to contact an installer? Id like to do some reading before that as it will allow me to judge if the installer knows what they are doing

There’s a bit of information on GivEnergy’s website All in One | The best home battery of 2024 | GivEnergy

And I am sure there are videos on youtube

@daveb01 and @PianSom on this forum both have dual AIO setups

Hi yah. Have a look at this post.

As others have said, the parallel AIO1 system works well. I am coming up to my first anniversary and have had no problems with it (since my installer eliminated an earth issue from my house).

You no longer communicate with the AIO units when you are running parallel. All comms/control takes place through the Gateway. I keep an occasional eye on the variance in the SoC of my two AIOs; they are almost always within 1%, and I think the largest difference I have ever seen is 5%.

Of course, the big unasked question is whether it is cost effective to upgrade. My suspicion is that in almost all cases it is not.

This link appears to be broken. I made sure I am logged in to the forum, just in case

Just clicked the link and it works, it is the original GE community? So you may have to sign up. It’s the one you get sent to if you click the link in the app online in the cloud.

yep, not signed in on the old forum, thanks!
A LOT of good info in there!
