Just had my AOI installed this week. No PV at the moment.
I’ve entered my Octopus agile smart tariff details and initially just left Eco mode enabled with no charge/discharge times defined.
From the description of Eco mode I was expecting the battery to monitor the Agile prices and charge between 2am-5am when prices were cheapest. I happened to be awake at 3am thanks to a car alarm, had a quick check and the battery wasn’t charging.
I’ve now manually set charge/discharge times, but I thought the point was I wouldn’t need to.
What’s the point of the modes if they don’t monitor and automatically change when prices are lower.
Nope… it’s all manual !!!
Eco mode just means that it will charge / discharge the battery first.
If you want to charge from 2am to 5pm then you need to set a schedule for it…
if you are not planning on having any solar panels fitted and you want it all automated then you need to sign up to the “Intelligent Octopus Flux” tarrif and they will take over your battery and do what you wanted ( charge when cheap and discharge when the grid needs is )
In Smart Tariff page of the mobile app the Automations button links to
“Standalone Battery - Eco Mode
Charges your battery when your electricity price is the_ lowest and discharges it dynamically to meet your demand for the rest of the day”
It reads like it should be monitoring, especially as it’s an Automation.
