I’m an Android user, and my GE app version is 2.8.
There’s a fair few bugs, but the most frustrating ones are:
The new additional Timed Charge options; it is not possible to activate/deactivate each option individually - either they’re all enabled, or none are. I also found that (in trying to work around that issue) that setting the charge to 0% but having a time set will disable battery discharging at this time. Very frustrating! Each option should be able to be individually settable on/off and time period.
If setting an option fails (e.g. a time period) then it resets the time you just set back to 00:00 - meaning you have to set the time and then try to confirm the setting again. Very frustrating!
The “Home” network option - if you’re on mobile data, you probably aren’t at home - don’t allow the user to select this unless they’re on their home WiFi network (techies who have a home VPN - ignore them - too complex for the average user). Minor issue but new users might not understand why they can’t connect - and there’s no message saying why it isn’t possible (or worse, it does allow you to switch to Home, but then never updates - for obvious reasons).
Do you have an old android phone? I have an Xperia running android 14, and my Givenergy app is version 3.4.4.
I definitely don’t have the second problem you mention - if setting a time fails, I just get a notification and can try again immediately without having to input it again.
The local connection is mostly to limit data consumption on mobile I believe - if you have something like Home Assistant, you can have that poll locally and broadcast more rapidly than every 15mins, which can then still work via VPN or mobile networks, since HA allows remote access on any type of network, so that’s a workaround. Enphase polls every 15mins regardless of local or remote connections, so it’s better than that!
Hi Ed, Ivan here from the GE App team. Thanks for your feedback - really helpful and please keep it coming.
Your third point is very valid - we’re working on an improvement to the home/away functionality, and we’ll aim to release that next week. Please keep an eye out for the update and let me know if it helps.
The issues you’re experiencing with the timed charge options does sound frustrating, and I’ll look into this soon. Unlike the home/away functionality, this goes beyond the app into hardware/firmware and is also settable from multiple places, so it may be a bit more tricky to fix quickly, but thank you for making us aware of it - we’ll explore what we can do here to improve.
Thanks for the reply! I understand that you have multiple options/parameters that affect other settings, and you end up with settings fighting each other. Not much fun!
If you need some beta testing, let me know - happy to help where I can.
