unsurprising but completely disappointing. Feel like this company has been run as a bit of a joke by someone

Oh dear. Hopefully someone will tell us soon if our expensive batteries will become expensive bricks… or what the plan is for access/control going forward. Maybe they will push a new app for local control.

I guessed it was coming but didn’t think it would be this soon!

Well hopefully another solar company will buy them and take on all existing customers.

I did wonder if a company like Heatable might be interested, the giv kit is a solid product, Heatable have a solid reputation. Might be a good fit!

I’m not jumping to conclusions until we get formal news.
I believe there are several companies under the GivEnergy name, so it’s possibly just part of it being wound up?

I’m ā€˜glass half full’, so trying to remain positive about the future of Giv until we have a formal statement about what this means for our kit and support moving forwards.

you are close to the Mark, GivSoftware run the Portal not GivEnergy LTD hence the email that everyone is shouting about, yes it’s crap I have GivKit myself however I have seen what has been proposed and it don’t look too bad.

I don’t need the portal as I run my from Home assistant however those with 4G will get a portal log on, no one is going to miss out.

Before anyone asks no I don’t have any other updates or understanding of what’s happening, I have no control over this and perhaps shortly as I am a cost to Software no job , but hay it was good whilst it lasted and I have enjoyed almost every second of it.

cheers Michael

oh and an addendum to my last reply they are aiming for self sufficiency and that’s all I have seen some very spiteful comments based on no facts.

Let’s hope they can find someone to take it over - Octopus Energy would probably take a punt on it for the right price!

Interested to hear that GivSoftware run the portal - hopefully Michael keeps his job.

I just saw this posted online. I didn’t expect that the administrators would be called in so early. Hoping that another company will come in and support remote access without charging us for the priviledge!

This company was such a total joke. Assholes.

Will we get any warning should the cloud service be closed down?

Currently it’s the only way i can communicate with my 4 month old hybrid inverter! Home Assistant with GivTCP just doesn’t work and neither does the official app in local mode!

What would be the best settings to leave it in before all communication is lost.

Doesn’t @Rubikcube 's app work for you @Wingnut1000 ?

It did, but with the same problems as GivTCP and the official app in local mode. They all would start showing errors and then just not connecting without a reboot of the inverter. Then at some point even that didn’t work. I’m waiting for my installer to change the inverter. GE promised them a new one but i guess that’s off the cards now! So, I’m stuck with the portal currently.

I see, sorry. I read elsewhere (Octopus forums) that service appointments are still being (intended to be) honoured. Administration is not the same as insolvency, the company continues to operate for now, so you may be lucky. I hope so. Keep pushing for your replacement. :crossed_fingers:

With my whole lack of understanding on this. If it does fold, can we not purchase the Invert App recently mentioned and carry on with that?. Obviouly android based.

Yes, that should be possible

You might want to download it now or at least bookmark it, so you know where it is.

There is the small issue of the inverter rebooting it’s WiFi dongle frequently if it can’t find the giv portal - but hopefully apps such as the monitor app mentioned above can spoof the ā€œkeep aliveā€ that the inverter needs.

I guess you’d probably have to have the app running at all times, so perhaps have it on an old phone or tablet with display always on.

The portal may continue to be available for a while - administration can take a while and someone might buy out the company and keep it running for much longer.

It’s been mentioned elsewhere that the software arm of the business isn’t impacted by the administration, so maybe the portal won’t disappear at all. But there might be a monthly fee to keep it sustainable (especially for advanced features).

So, don’t panic too much just yet. Get prepared, but don’t worry too much.

Check this out

Hey Michael

Really sorry for the bad news.

But if you know who is now heading up GivSoftware I would very much like to rely that I am more than happy to pay a fee given the recent news of administrators. If GivEnergy LTD is to die and GivSoftware can live on so I can manage my system then fine, I shall happily pay to keep it running.

I expect the administrator news may change a lot of peoples mind around the subscription email.

At the possibility that you might be heading up the software side, I strongly suspect you have the skills for it I would happily pay up to £10 per month to keep things just how they are in terms of software and access.
