Avoid charging during peak and ensuring charge for self consumption

I’m about to have an AIO installed and have been learning all I can.

Is it possible to ensure the battery never charges during peak rate?

Also. How do you ensure you have enough charge during peak to meet demand. Are there any smart features besides home assistant?

Also also. Does the battery only charge from grid if you setup a force charge or will it do so when the charge drops to a certain level?

Welcome!

If you want to, you can spend many hours exploring alternative answers to your questions. There is no right or wrong, and people’s decisions will depend on their lifestyle and kit choices.

Do you have a solar panels to go with your AIO? And do you have a smart meter which will allow you to export? This is the sort of information that will be needed to help you make decisions which are right for you.

But, in short, the answers to your questions are:

  • yes. But the AIO controls are often non-intuitive and unforgiving
  • yes, there are some basic Givenergy tools and several third party (paid for) tools (eg WonderWatt)
  • it depends on how you set up your controls.

Have a read through some of the threads on the other forum - https://community.givenergy.cloud - which is more active than this one. And have a think about how much time you want to spend on this stuff. (Hint - if not much then have a look at the Intelligent Octopus Flux tariff.)

There are lots of friendly people on these forums, so you will have no problem getting assistance with getting yourself sorted out if you need it.

Enjoy the new toy!
