Cloud portal to have a fee from May?

Which Ombudsman are you referring to? Just so we know, because Ofgem won’t care, and the only ombudsman I can think of, would be the financial one, if you purchased your system via Credit Card or some kind of Loan or Finance. And only after your financial company declines your claim.

In my case, my Section 75 just came through, for a substantial claim against my heat pump installer. There was no need to escalate to the ombudsman.

@ Mouton
My system did save me money, but it wasn’t the battery, it was my solar panels and SolarEdge Inverters… the GE battery only allowed me to be on OIF, which was the ONLY reason I got it. If I knew Tesla and many other companies got on it shortly after, I would have gotten the Tesla PW3.

Last Summer I really tried getting another 13.58kWh GE Battery to link it to my existing one thinking it was modular and very simple to do. Funny enough, no simple solution, only a few BETA users, with many many issues, including once the first battery got charged to 100%, the second battery remained on 70% or whatever it got too.

I asked my installer to confirm if they could add an additional battery to my system, and to give me a quote. Guess what? No confirmation and no quote… so GE lost business right there.
Did the installer reach out to GE and they didn’t bother replying for a design or confirmation of being able to add another battery, or was it that the installer just didn’t wanted to deal with GE?

What can I say; revoking the OF API worked for me & I’ve had no problem since. The only API I have now is from Axle Energy where they take control of my battery, at a pre-notified time, to reduce the stress on the ‘grid’ & they return control to me after the ‘event’.

I should have asked, was that Octopus Flux, or Octopus Intelligent Flux (OIF), which does exactly what Axle Energy is doing?

Did your cloud access page looked like this:

I was on OF about a year ago (Octopus’s recommendation). I didn’t like OF so changed to Octopus Cosy but was locked out of control of my battery/inverter; Octopus stated they had removed my battery/inverter from their system & I should now have control. That wasn’t true untik I revoked their API. I’ve been on Octopus Cosy since April 2025 added Octopus Outgoing in Aug 2025.

Regarding API’s - sorry if this seems like a daft question, but if the cloud portal goes down and the API’s go with it will I loose my existing access to Axle energy for grid support and also I assume that the Octopus Intelligent Flux tariff will no longer be available as an option to me? - I’m on Intel Go at the moment but Flux does look like a slightly better option for the summer - though I think they’ve blocked tariff changes at the moment but the option to switch would be nice when they do eventually unblock them.

And if I was to set up Home assistant would API’s then become an option or not ?

Ta - Dave.

Actually I’ve just found the answer to most of my questions here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9IrDFLXUY0&t=9s
But still not 100% sure on the API’s with Home assistant though…

Dave.

All very interesting. I have no connection with GivEnergy other than I purchased their Inverter and Battery a year ago via an installer who still trades. I can see why many here are concerned about a future charging model. However, I would rather pay a small monthly fee for support that actually works rather than potentially risk the business failing. Rather than getting lawyered up it might be better to see the bigger picture?

The main business has failed, they filed for bankruptcy yesterday - the charge would be for the servers and app/software. At present, there’s no news about hardware support or warranty cover for things like inverters or batteries.

For those wanting to explore the world of local control using Home Assistant and GivTCP, STTG has just published a new tutorial

Other local control methods are available of course (e.g. Andrew Miller’s app, the BBC Basic Inverter app, RubikCube etc).

Anyone who prefers not to pay the subscription, really should download and evaluate my app. It’s free to download; only control features require a paid upgrade as documented here.

@ Rubikcube

I confirm that this works well, still a bit funny every now and then, but the latest GivEnergy app also works.

Issue is that we are now out of support… if you try to access the support for GE, you get a timed out webpage.

I neglected this, and now I have to get all my documents in order to start a claim.

Has anyone started one?
