Decommissioned - two 5.2kwh batteries available

I just had my GivEnergy batteries decommissioned as I am switching to another provider and they were not working. The AC Charger for them had burned out one of its boards. The installer tells me the batteries (two 5.2kwh ones) appeared to be working fine but that could never be confirmed as GivEnergy went into Admin before shipping me the replacement AC Charger they had promised for months. Does anyone want a couple of 5.2kwh batteries plus cabling that are probably, but not definitely, working fine? Or a single one? I have no idea what they are worth. I also have the AC Charger unit for spares. The warranty for the batteries expires on 31-May-2026 so no joy there. I’m in Selby, North Yorkshire. Discuss if interested or ping me on richard@milkywaygallery.com.

Are you saying this is a 5 year old system (installed May 2021)?

My view is that there is nothing “premium” about GivEnergy equipment. Like many other brands, the inverters have a typical life expectancy of about 5 years. Of course, some will last longer and some will fail sooner. GivEnergy batteries should have a life expectancy of about 8 years on average.

GivEnergy’s warranties were nothing more than wishful thinking.

Battery prices have fallen over recent years. A fogstar 16kWh (which are currently popular) costs £1,950. Fogstar Energy 314Ah 48V Solar Battery | 16.1kWh LiFePO4

That is 3 times the capacity of your 5.2kWh, so I would value a brand new 5.2kWh at 1,950 / 3 = £650. But yours are 5 years old out of their 8 year life, so the second hand value should be 650 * 3 / 8 = £244 each.

A broken AC3 inverter is probably only worth £50 for spares or repair.

The battery cables, isolator switch and (wifi) dongle are worth at least £50. I presume it’s a wifi dongle; the sim dongles are worthless.

So I would value the lot at about £600. Not much sorry. There seem to be buyers on ebay prepared to pay well over the odds at the moment, so I would try listing there.

Are the batteries readily accessible, or do they need to be removed from a loft or anything like that?

Hi Rubikcube, that’s very helpful, thank you. It is a WiFi dongle. I will post some photos if the forum let’s me do so (I am new to it so don’t know yet). I think your assessment sounds very informed and sensible. If someone wishes to make me an offer at £600 or less, go for it. The equipment has been removed and is currently free standing and ready for collection. If I get no response here I’ll try eBay, but that appeared to be mainly new batteries, and not many of them. Yes, this is a 5-year old system as you guessed.

These decommissioned items have now been sold, thanks all.
