Hi
I have fitted a give energy 9.5 battery with a 3 kWh
Inverter as a stand alone system to my 2kwh solar
panels witch are 10 years old
Since the battery has been fitted the FIT payment meter is adding the battery usage to the solar generation readings
Any ideas on how I can fix this so the FIT meter
only shows the generation readings
Thanks
It all depends on how it has been wired up
Did you replace the existing FIT inverter with the givenergy hybrid inverter and battery, or did you leave the existing FIT inverter in place to generate AC from your FIT panels, and then separately added the givenergy battery and inverter to take the AC from your FIT inverter and store it in the battery
If you have done the former, then you can’t, the rules of FIT are that it has to be from a proper certified meter and there is no way to separate the solar generation from the battery use
Option 1 will look like this:
FIT solar – Givenergy inverter + battery – FIT meter – home
Option 2:
FIT solar – FIT inverter – Givenergy inverter and battery – FIT meter – home
The FIT meter could be moved to be between your FIT inverter and your GivEnergy inverter
If you’ve done option 1 then you should have got approval from your FIT provider (who pays you for the generation) to change the FIT inverter for the GivEnergy one. This is allowed, but your FIT meter will have to be swapped for a bi-directional meter that gives a net import - export figure.
As far as I understand the new battery & inverter is a stand alone system which allows me to keep my FIT payments
The solar inverter is separate but does charge the battery & will export to the grid
I do not have a bi-directional FIT meter is that the problem?
It sounds like you have option 2 then.
Yes you could get a bi directional FIT meter that gives net readings but it’d be simpler if you just had your FIT meter moved to between the FIT inverter and your GivEnergy inverter so that it only records your FIT generation and isn’t affected by whatever you do with your battery.
Plus you’ll get more FIT payments because you are getting paid for what you generate as you used to be. If you have a bi directional meter reading both your FIT generation and battery discharge minus battery charging from grid, your readings will be reduced due to the GivEnergy battery and inverter losses (of around 20%)
Hi
Thanks for your advice
I’m waiting for an engineer who fitted the battery
so will let you know what happens
