GIV-AC3.0 no firmware updates since installed July 2023

My GivEnergy AC-coupled inverter was installed towards the end of the July 2023. It came with firmware version D0.535-A0.535. I believe that was the latest current version at the time the inverter was installed, based on the information regarding firmware updates in the GivEnergy Knowledge Base.

However, that KB article also lists a number of later firmware versions, albeit with numbers in the 2 range, rather than the 5 range that my inverter has, which does seem a little strange. (Why would the numbering system take a step backwards like that?)

Although I have been alerted to a number of battery firmware updates on the portal since then, all of which have been installed successfully, I have never been offered any of these later inverter firmware versions, so it’s still on 535:

I raised a query about this with GivEnergy consumer support in January this year. Their response was:

Inverter firmware version 535 is the most recent and up to date public release version which is why the portal does not state an update being available.

We do have firmware version 205.205 which is a later version however not available publicly through the portal.

This doesn’t seem to tally at all with what’s on their knowledge base.

I was reminded of this on seeing rbor’s recent thread about being prompted to update the firmware on their AC3.0 inverter from D0.205-A0.205 to D0.210-A0.210.

Can anyone shed any light on why my inverter seems to be stubbornly stuck on a firmware version that is getting on for three years old, when other users seem to be happily running much later versions, and even being offered the very “latest and greatest”?

maybe contact giv support and ask why / request they push an update. I used the online chat last week to request they push the latest firmware to the batteries. My ac3 is now on the 210 firmware and batteries at 3020 (8.2kwh) If moving to the latest 210 firmware based on other feedback ensure your batteries are on the latest firmware as well.

Thanks, I started a chat with GivEnergy Support today and they upgraded my inverter firmware to 210 while I waited. The battery firmware had been updated to 3020 a couple of days earlier, via the normal route i.e. the prompt on the portal’s inverter page. They couldn’t shed any light on why the inverter firmware hadn’t been flagged for update that way, though.

I did have a look at the manual update process but it didn’t really appeal: I’ve spent far too long squatted in the attic next to the inverter getting the wifi dongle set up properly to want to spend much time scrabbling around up there again! Especially so since the process seems to involve removing the dongle - I prefer to work on the basis that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
