We had our internet changed a while back and since then we have not been able to get any data from our inverter. I have had someone round and we have been able to connect to the inverters Wifi Nework, open the admin pages and scan for our home Wifi then enter the log on details etc the restart the inverter but it simply does not connect - we are not able to see any device connected in the home internet admin console. We have done the same connecting the inverter to an open hotspot - again it was able to scan for and see it - but it does not connect. When we used the app on a phone connected to the inverters local network it did come up with and show data. Has anyone else had this issue and more importantly know how to correct/fix it.
Hi there, the first thing I would check is the wifi security level on the router. It should be WPA2.
If the security level is correct and your router has both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz, try disabling the 5GHz to see if it will connect.
If it connects ok then enable the 5GHz again.
Yes, we have confirmed the security level and also tried other wifi as well. It can see the Wifi when scanning it simply doesn’t seem to be able to connect.
The GE kit is famous for holding its previous settings, so the advice is to set your new router up with the same details as the old one with the same WiFi name and password. Once your kit is connected then you can change settings.
If you have not done this then it is best to reset the dongle wait a while, then connect them again. If you have the option I would go hard wired as well?
sorry for the late reply - we have tried to find out what the old WiFi SSID was but not had any luck - Usually have a photo of it but simply cannot find it. We have tried resetting the unit as well - still no luck. Is it worth getting a USB WiFi dongle for it and using that instead ?
It took me about nine attempts to change the details but perseverance led to success.
I agree it appears essential that WPA2 security and ONLY 2.4GHz frequency enabled on the router (or any other WiFi extender, mesh etc). Tedious and not user friendly but the best I can offer
So were you able to see your wifi and enter the PW and it took 9 times before it actually connected ?
I can scan and see the network but it really just doesn’t connect to it.
Not sure if it is worth getting a USB dongle to try with ? This appears to have a built in WiFi adaptor.
I have been through my notes and this seems to be what I did. No doubt I have missed, or mis-described some important step but it might give you some pointers. If there is variance between this text and GE published process I suggest you follow theirs.
I turned off the Fritz Box (my domestic router) higher frequencies and just had 2.4 Ghz radio running.
On the laptop I went to WiFi and turned off the Fritz WiFi connection and un-ticked connect automatically
I then went and sat in front of the Inverter dongle with the laptop and followed the GE published process. Many times I lost the connection to the dongle despite being within 1m - hence the nine attempts. Don’t think it was me but…
I connected the laptop WiFi to the Dongle WiFi which broadcast ID as Wo22nnnnn and used its password
Opened a web browser (probably Firefox perhaps I should have used Chrome) and typed http:/10.10.100.254 to open up the dongle and then put in the credentials which were admin, admin (now changed for security)
It should come up in Working Mode Configuration with STA modes and Transparent Mode selected. Click STA Interface Settings and the search button next to Apps SSID
After a few seconds it shows a list of available networks and I then selected Fritz Box and Apply
It then asks for Pass Phrase which is the Fritz WiFi password and apply
Then moved to Device Management and Restart Module. This took a few seconds and i then refreshed the browser page.
On the Device Administrator page you can change admin/admin to something else [I did for security otherwise it is open to anyone to change. Although this must be some sort of joke because of the difficulty I had in actually making the change when I wanted, and needed, to do so]
The web page came back and asked for my new (just changed) credentials to see the dongle
Reconnect Laptop to Fritz box; turn 5 GHz back on and set WiFi channel to auto and saved
On the final time I made it all the way through the several screens and got a confirmation and connection. It wasn’t a relaxing experience.
I note talk of upgrading the dongle firmware but I intend to leave well alone.
Good luck - even for technical users this is a complicated and frustrating faff. For the average user a nightmare.
