GivEnergy System Down – No Solar Generation, Battery at 0%, Only Grid Usage (Need Help Urgently)

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone here can help, as I’m currently getting nowhere with support.

System details:

  • Inverter Serial No.: SAxxxx
  • Inverter: GIV-HY3.6
  • Inverter Firmware: D0.449-A0.449
  • Battery Serial No.: BExxxx
  • Battery Firmware: 3013

Issue:

  • Battery is stuck at 0%
  • No generation showing from solar panels
  • House is drawing 100% from the grid
  • Inverter showing as idle!

What I’ve tried so far:

  • I’ve tried to update the firmware from the portal many times, but at the end of it, I get a notification
  • "The firmware update running on SAxxx has failed. You can start it again on the inverter card."
  • Checked app/dashboard (no useful errors shown)
  • Contacted support (no response yet)
  • Restarted system (no change)

Questions:

  1. Has anyone seen this before?
  2. Could this be firmware-related or an inverter fault?
  3. How do I update the firmware manually?
  4. Is my inverter Gen1 or Gen2?
  5. Where do I get firmware for the inverter, battery, and the dongle? I can’t find them online. Can someone please provide them?

I had the same problem I created several support requests and after 4 weeks I the inverter started working again.
No feedback from support.
My ongoing problem is the battery which doesn’t take any charge or discharge.
My installers in no longer trading which leaves me between a rock and a hard place.
Ge do not want to deal with end users only installers.

If the battery really is at 0% you will need an engineer to charge it.

I’ve just turned my battery on briefly as it’s been tuurned off since mid Feb waiting on a new inverter and I didn’t want it to parasitically drain.

It dropped from 37% to 1% in an instant after dropping from 62% to 37% over 4 weeks.

Voltage still claims to be 52.6V

Can you contact your installer for support? I have heard a couple of examples of givenergy eventually answering the phone after a very long period of waiting. But as you can tell giv support is pretty non existent now. Massive staffing issues.

Have tried to call the installer. He is not answering either.

I’ll call GivEnergy and select the “installer” option from the phone menu.

Update: I’ve tried calling GivEnergy, but regardless of whether I select Installer or Homeowner, the call keeps getting disconnected.

If you paid by credit card go for a chargeback.

That will either prompt someone to contact you and fix things or get you your money back so you can have it removed and consider a replacement.

4 weeks is too long for something costing thousands to sit idle with no support and just silence.

This system was installed in 2022. Would going to the credit card company help after all this time?

Lots of reading on chargeback at - Debit & credit card chargeback: protection on faulty goods - MoneySavingExpert.com

I suggest you contact Citizens advice for more advice - or if you have legal protection on your home insurance you could get advice that way too?

Can you claim for kit 4 years old? Given they just appointed Administrators we may have to wait to hear how to contract the administrator to make any kind of claim. However given Giv transferred millions not long ago to their sister company their might not be much left to claim against

If there is a valid claim the credit card company will also be liable. And isn’t there something about manufacturers warranty being 6 years? Unless they choose to give more?

I guess GivEnergy not going to resolve my issues.

So has anyone got their inverter and battery to work using Home Assist and GivTcp?

How easy is it?

There is a learning curve with Home Assistant and GivTCP, but once up and running it works well.

The Speak to the Geek YouTube channel has just made a video on the GE situation and has promised to make a beginner’s video on Home Assistant and GivTCP. Worth waiting for.

But I would get hold of your installer; thats who your agreement is with, not GE.

You can also get the GE installer app but you will need credentials, again, your installer is responsible.

I want to update the firmware manually via USB for my Inverter and Battery.

Could someone please provide the link to the latest firmware for my setup?

I’m having trouble finding the correct version.

Inverter Serial No.: SAxxxx
GivEnergy 5kW Hybrid inverter

Battery Serial No.: BExxxx
GivEnergy 5.2kWh LiFePO4 Battery

I have this exact issue since March 20th. Nothing from Givenergy and I’m getting the installer to do a site visit (at my cost) so will let you know if I get anywhere.

I have commented and keep reading other commenting hoping Giv UK will be bought out. But whats to buy? AM I wrong in saying Giv UK was basically a sales team? The product isn’t made here, not sure anything was made here? Company records show 3 r&d staff, no capital. Does the Giv UK arm have any value?
