Has anyone managed to update their wifi/dongle following a broadband change?

Are any lights on the dongle. If it is trying to connect it should be flashing. If it is connected to a network it should be on permanently. If there are no lights at all contact your installer and ask if they can check it. It could be that it is faulty.
You should also make sure that your router is using WPA2 for security. If possible turn off the 5Ghz network on the extender you want the dongle to connect to.

Yes @NormC the blue light on the dongle is flashing.
Internet router is using WPA2.
I’ve switched off 5Hz on WiFi so just on 2.4Hz.
The extender (TPlink AV600) doesnt have anything on it to switch between the 2 signals, but I assume it inly transmits what the router transmits?
The new router is downstairs and if I move it into the room more, (and even switch off the extender) I can still get Wifi on my phone, just, when standing in the garage next to the inverter.
Givenergy haven’t responded to any WhatsApp or email yet. I’ve got about 10 days left of my cooling off period with Sky so could just scrap it all, but feels wrong that I’d have to do that!
Any ither ideas? :folded_hands:
ps I’ve even logged into the Sky router. I was sure at the weekebd the GivEnergy Dongle was listed as an unconnected device and today it’s not even listed.

The only other thing I can suggest is to add the dongle wifi network manually to your phone. Forget your other networks on the phone then see if your phone tries to connect to the dongle.

Thanks. I’m pretty sure I tried that over the weekend, but happy to try it again later when home from work!

Have contacted my installer.
They say they need to change to the new WiFi on their commissioning app as the Dongle is programmed to the old one.
I’m past my warranty date so will charge me a call out date.
I’m going to start a new thread to see if this is common practice or am I being ripped off…

Installers usually give two years support. After that they will charge. If you have changed your Sky router and password to the old router details then there shouldn’t be a need to change the wifi on the dongle.
I see GivEnergy have updated there website. On their contact page it gives lots of helpful information. If you scroll to the bottom there is a telephone contact number. Contact us | GivEnergy
Have you checked the online portal to see the status of the inverter? It should tell you when it was last online.

It’s offline and has been since the broadband change. Yes, already changed to my standard wifi name and password.
I cant do anything if no dongle network.

If it is of any help I wrote this last night for another sufferer. All the seamless connections [WiFi, Bluetooth, USB] are not always as seamless as we desire.

I am still not able to see the dongle network. I am having a very slow email conversation with Support, but they keep saying to connect to Dongle network. But this does not show up on phone or tablet and trying to add it manually on the phone, another suggestion, doesn’t work. I’m still stuck.
I’ve tried phoning them but I guess I am low priority…

If the dongle is not broadcasting its SSID [the WO2nnnn] then it would appear like a failure. However, there is no reason for it to stop broadcasting just because you have changed your ISP or router, so that seems less likely.

What device(s) are you using to search for the signal? Can you borrow someones else’s phone/tablet to try and see if the signal is present?

You could turn off your router and then your only signal should be the dongle (and possibly your mobile phone offering a hot spot - in which case turn that off too) plus any overlap from neighbors.

If with nothing else broadcasting you still cannot see the signal then perhaps (and I don’t know if it does) a reboot of the dongle ‘might’ restart the broadcast. Ask GE should you get through, or perhaps someone else here will have had the experience and add to this.

When my system was set up the installer plugged dongle into laptop to enter/change details. I do not know if this uses special installer software or is just any web browser and if it allows you (that’s us mere mortal users) to make changes. For obvious reasons I am unwilling to conduct this experiment but again someone might know and add to the discussion.

Thanks
Even with my home Wifi switched off the dongle network does not appear.
The installer did come out and they said the did a system reset (switching everything off and in again) but that didnt help.

Of course, now the clocks have changed, the battery is niw using the grid to recharge the battery at 11pm using peak rate electricity!

Frustrating.

The dongle does have a reset button under the blue end cap. I guess now with nothing to lose (said hopefully) then pressing this should reset and restart the dongle. A Hi-flying.com HF-A21 as I understand it.

I don’t know if there is a minimum depress time but try for 10 seconds or so and see. It is my understanding that this resets everything to the default including admin/admin as the login passwords and quite possibly the serial number of your inverter too.

As it is a USB device, you could remove the dongle from the Inverter and plug it into a computer USB port and see if there is any communication and/or lights. And try the reset from there too. It would be warmer indoors. And IF it does remove the inverter serial number then I believe you need to edit a text file to add it back.

I recall seeing something about editing files if you needed to update when the online update did not work - worth a search to see if a) my memory is correct, and b) what is recommended.

you can reset the dongle to factory settings as said above

its possible that the dongle has been set to hide the SSID. I did that on mine to reduce the visible clutter and reduce (marginally) the risk of people trying to find and connect to it. You can still connect, just need to manually enter the SSID and password

If the dongle has failed then you can buy a new one and replace it yourself. tradesparky online sells them. With the new dongle you need to plug it into a PC and edit the configuration file to put your inverter serial number in otherwise the portal won’t recognise the connection

Hi All. My question is with Gateway & All in one do I have to change broadband details for both or only Gateway. Obviously the 2 communicate to each other but probably via cable although both my units have aerials sticking out. Any ideas. I am waiting till Monday for my installer to firm this too.

a lot on new routers require a more secure password so you CANNOT copy the old router info over. That my issue as I hoped to do the same .

C an anyone tell me if I n need to change both the Gateway & the AIO dongles built in in order for me to see and control the system as before?

do you have one AIO or more than one?

If you have one AIO then all portal communications goes through the AIO so you definitely need to change broadband details on the AIO dongle.

I would think you would need to change the settings on the gateway as well

If you have more than one AIO the AIO’s are slaved to the gateway and that’s what talks to the portal so you could possibly only need to change the gateway dongle

Morning All
Hurrah success.
History is that the Web based method froze on Rebooting.

Having read up on the Give Energy Installer APP and how to use it I took the access panel off the AIO and saw that the Blue WIFI light

was flashing slowly to indicate that the old Wifi connection had been removed already by my web based action before.

I therefore proceeded to follow the Giv Energy Installer App instructions to input the new broadband settings. This proceeded and completed and the Flashing

blue light on the AIO in the access panel went a steady blue.

About 2 minutes later the Giv Energy App on my phone showed all reconnected with Solar/ battery status back to normal

A huge sigh of relief I can tell you.

The cloud is also showing connection so data will be available again but not probably for the missing days!

It is good to know that the Gateway connection does not appear to have to be changed at all with regard to wifi presumably because it has the RS485 link?

I am hoping all wil be well. Considering that users/ owners might need to change their Broadband provider regularly its a great shame the process is not

quite so involved.

Thanks for you input any way
Keith

yes unfortunately this is the case, the inverter doesn’t hold a copy of the data it sends to the portal in case the connection isn’t working, so any history whilst you were offline is lost

I ordered a new Dongle.
Givenergy registered it for me.
Im back online!.
Had to go into the 10.10.100.254 to set up as per online instructions but done!
Relief.
