Has anyone tested their switch to battery on mains failure feature?

Hey! Thanks . I shall write it down this time

I haven’t, but I don’t have a mains isolator. The installer didn’t fit one and I didn’t think anything of it.

I’m hoping someone can tell me how to test the EPS functionality without an isolator.

Hey Davef, unless you have a givgateway you might struggle without an isolator.

In the gateway you could trip the grid off.

P.S If your with octopus it is free to get an isolator installed. Well was in November.

Some other providers do charge for the service to install an isolator.

Thanks

H Bob, thank you.
Yes we do have the Giv Gateway.

Should I isolate the 2 solar arrays 1st (I know that wouldn’t normally happen in as power outage, I’m just aware that every

Which breaker it? And what should I expect as to time to swap from grid to battery, then back again when the grid supply is restored.
I’m aware that when switching any supply there is a voltage & current spike which can damage anything in the cct. So for testing, should I isolate anything? (Ex Electrical/electronics engineer)

Thanks

Hey Davef,

There should be a switch labeled grid. In mine is the one on the right.

I just did a test as I wouldn’t want to suggest something I wouldn’t do myself and seemed to behave the same as my isolation switch.

I’m pulling in about 200w right now. I didn’t isolate it.

I would say just as a provisional test just don’t have any heavy appliances on. Just your house base load. Maybe some lights TV etc. no cookers etc however in reality it should be fine up to your battery rating. If the same 13.5 AIO I have it should support up to 6kwh should be fine.

I have done via my isolation switch up to 5 ISH kwh. My heat pump and tumble dryer.

The AIO under high loads will make a hell of a hum if the load is higher so don’t worry too much.

I will be looking to do a test in peak sun when I’m home one day when my AIO is full in the daytime to see how my solar inverter behaves.

So if your at full and pulling in lots of sun I can’t say I have tested that yet.

Hope that helps.

Thanks
Bob

Many Thanks Bob, I’ll have at look at doing it tomorrow.

Cheers

The day before a four day weekend? Good luck! :crossed_fingers::joy:
