Hi everyone. I’ve read the posts by others and it seems a frustratingly daunting exercise. We’ve had a garage conversion completed, and in that build, we have had a wired extender (flying saucer on the ceiling) fitted. Prior to the build we had a TP-link wifi extender which was always hit and miss for us regarding it connectivity to either the inverter (some 10-12 feet away) or getting thsignal through 2 double glazed doors to where our virgin router sits. So now we have hopefully solved the iffy connection issue.
So, with trepidation, how do i go about reassigning the inverter to the new wired extender. I have the name and password of the extender. I can see the FD name of my inverter either via the App or the cloud login. I have downloaded the Givenergy installer.
So could someone please just run me through what the next steps are.
Edit: sorry failed to mention the inverter is a G3 5Kw Hybrid unit.
there’s videos on youtube of how to configure a givenergy inverter dongle to connect to your wifi. Best to follow that
one crucial thing is your extender must not be requiring security higher than WPA2 and its advised to turn off the 5GHz network on the extender when initially connecting the inverter as it only works on 2.4GHz. Once connected you can turn the 5Ghz back on
You’ll also probably need to get into the web interface of the inverter by connecting to it’s wifi network, too, and there you can configure it to connect to the new extender.
Why didn’t you just run an Ethernet cable to the unit? If I read correctly you added a wired WiFi access point to do this? Direct connection would always be the first choice for reliability.
Your right but the wifi access point provides wifi for other aplliances in the build not soley the Inverter. So this gave good reliable connection within the room where it sits.
Yes I understand you have a need for an access point in that area but if you ran a cable for the AP maybe run one for the inverter/etc. the more you remove from WiFi and hard wire the more reliable the system becomes with WiFi for those devices that can only connect via WiFi. This is always the case regardless of what the kit is. I’ve had my AIO/Gateway for nigh on 3 years now and it has never fallen offline except when rebooting after firmware updates and it always reconnects more or less instantly. As my day job is AV custom installation, I apply this mantra and stuff works without issue. Just saying that WiFi should never be the first choice for connecting stuff to the network/internet.
