I cannot stay connected to my inverter wifi access point

Hi, newbie here, so apologies if I’m making rookie mistakes

Yesterday, I upgraded my network to a new wifi mesh and need to update the connection settings for the inverter. I don’t seem to be able to undo the screws on the case to get to a reset switch, so I’m having to go through the 10.10.100.254 route.

The problem is that I connect to the wifi access point (usually takes 2 or 3 attempts), but very quickly (within 5 seconds), it drops connection. I’ve developed a system of getting everything ready, quickly switching back to the phone/tablet wifi connections, getting the connection, then quickly switching back to the web interface and hitting the apply button.

So far, I have been able to update the wifi credentials, but I’m stuck trying to do the device reset as there is no feedback about whether anything is happening. My dashboard still says the inverter is offline.

Does anyone have any advice about why I can’t stay connected to the access point? This should be a straightforward process by the look of it, but not being able to stay connected is really making it painful.

FWIW, I am on Octopus IO flux, not sure if that makes a difference or prevents changes being made?

Any help really would be appreciated, I seem to have been sat outside in the cold with my inverter for hours trying to do this

have you turned the 5GHz network off on your new mesh? The inverter only works on 2,4GHz and most likely it keeps resetting the connection because its repeatedly trying to connect and the router is trying to kick it to the 5GHz which it can’t accept

I also found that I needed to turn fast roaming off on my mesh

and make sure you reserve an IP for the inverter on the router when it does get connected

Thanks for the response and suggestions. The problem though is not connecting to the mesh, it’s me connecting to the wifi dongle access point (WHxxxxxxx), in order to get to 10.10.100.254. That’s the connection that keeps dropping so I can never quite complete changing the wifi mesh credentials before the connection drops out again.

I thought it might be the inverter resetting itself regularly

Thinking back to when I moved my own inverters onto my mesh I had a similar problem. I think connecting from my laptop might have been the way I did it in the end, the tablet just kept disconnecting

Ah, good shout, I’ll try the laptop in the morning when it’s (hopefully) stopped raining. Fingers crossed that works :crossed_fingers:

Hi Geoffrey,
Just wanted to say a big thankyou for your suggestions and help. My mesh has a separate IoT wifi connection, which I restricted to 2.4G. Then I logged into the inverter using my laptop (from the warmth of the kitchen!), and it stayed logged on without dropping out. I very quickly updated the settings and restarted it and everything is back up and running now :partying_face: I’ll now look into reserving the IP address for the inverter.

Hi everyone first post and a similar but slightly different problem. I have a new Router and internet provider and so went to update the dongle with the new details on my Give energy Inverter. I pressed the reset button at the bottom of the dongle. opened my phone app and saw the dongle on the list of network options so it was ready to update. I went into the installer app to update went through the processes and when it came to upload, the dongle hit a problem and said there was a fault uploading. So I tried to reset the dongle by pushing the reset button but this time the dongle didnt show on my list of networks and so I couldn’t connect. I have tried dozens of times now and still cant see the dongle on my list of networks.

I think the upload problem was caused by a weak internet signal from the router so will fix this and I am now thinking that I may have bricked the dongle so might need to purchase a new one. Anyone got any ideas I can try before going this route?

Hi, I had similar problems not so long ago. Problem seems to be with phones/tablets, i couldnt stay connected for longer than 10 seconds. After advice on here, I got the laptop out and that worked fine. Worth a try if you computer with wifi

Just wondering how you run the installer app on a Laptop. I don’t think it will run on a laptop?

You can just type in the IP address and you should be able to change most things

10.10.100.254
