I have charge/discharge schedules set up so that I draw from the grid and charge the battery between 23:30 and 05:30 to make use of Octopus Intelligent GO.
However the internet in my area has been patchy recently, I have noticed that when the internet goes out the timed charge fails to start. In last nights case the internet came back at 2am, but when I woke up in the morning there had been no timed charge.
Is an internet connection really required to start a timed charge? Surely this is all stored on the inverter?
If you’ve done it on the app or on the portal as a normal timed charge then yes it should be saved on the inverter and never changed
If you’ve used a smart tariff card or beta tariff card, or signed up to something external like WonderWatt then it’ll work differently and will need a reliable internet connection.
Only other thing to note is the winter conditioning for batteries. If you’ve got that turned on and your battery is outside you might find that overwrites your timed charge with a specific instruction to warm the battery up by discharging or charging a bit. It might not put your normal timed charge back after it’s done - especially if the internet connection is dodgy.
I’ve had exactly the same problem for the past month or so, except that the settings appear to have reverted to settings previously fixed and now cannot be changed: 0030 to 0530 charge; 1600 to 1900 discharge. I had wondered if it was connected to our switching broadband supplier, but - since internet is very variable in this village - I wonder now if, while a changed setting seems to be accepted, it drops out at what seems to be a random time, and the times also randomly changed to a few minutes. So could it be connected to internet dropping out?
