Hi
I’m new to this so please excuse me if the answer is obvious. I’m trying to work out what hourly rate a 5 kw inverter would charge my batteries. I currently have a 3.5 gen inverter and it manages to charge my 2 x 5.2 batteries gen 2 and my 9.5 battery in 6 hours overnight.
I m wondering if I changed to a 5.kw inverter it would fully charge an additional 9.5 kw battery.
Thanks
Data sheets are here
Believe max AC charging is 3.3-3.6 kW, so it wouldn’t help.
The new 8KW inverter would do it !!
I wish this was out 12 Months ago when I installed my stuff rather than the 5KW one.
Might need more panels though, otherwise might have issues with start up voltage!
Nope… Startup voltage on the 8KW is lower than the 5KW !!!
5KW is 150V the 8KW is only 80V !!!
I am now looking at to how much to upgrade to the 8KW - as 3.6KW being pulled from the battery in the evening in winter isn’t very much.
Just found out…
I have been told I would also need to replace the Batteries… I have 2 x 9.5KW batteries but they are LV ( Low Voltage ).
The new 8KW inverters are High Voltage ( HV ) - so I would also need to replace my batteries - so I will NOT be doing that ! ( https://givenergy.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/UK-Datasheet-Stackable-Batteries-HV.pdf )
I am happy enough - so will just wait for another 5-7 years once my current array has paid for itself and then look at what the latest tech is then.
