Low Battery voltage and no storage

I have an inverter with 5Kw battery. The inverter has reported Battery Low Voltage for a month (didn’t know until I looked at the notification tab). This appears to mean that I haven’t been storing any excess generation to the battery :-(

The Battery is now at 3% below the battery reserve level of 4%. I have tried restarted the battery, updated the inverter to latest firmware but the battery is still not charging so the grid is getting all of my excess generation.

Any ideas of what might be wrong? Installer can’t see anything amiss when he looks at the system.

It sounds as if your battery and inverter are not communicating with one another.

Some questions:
What model battery do you have?
Do you have a hybrid inverter or an AC coupled inverter
Some batteries have a switch between the inverter and battery. If you have one, check that it hasn’t tripped.

Can you also upload a screenshot of your power graph so that we can see what is happening during the day.

Thanks

Rob

Today’s power graph

Battery status light is green and the first of the fours lights to the right is on

It is an AC coupled unit

The switch had tripped. Now reset and hoping it stays up.

I have had two of these switches replaced by my installer in the last year.
If this has worked, you should begin to see a blue shaded area for the battery appearing in your power graph. You should also see more lights appearing on the battery.
If this works, keep an eye on the switch. If it continues to turn off, contact your installer.

One time that my switch tripped repeatedly, I noticed that the switch was hot. I managed to keep the switch on by reducing the charge power down from the default of 3000 W. This kept my battery working at a lower charge rate until the installer could replace the switch.

At this time, you may have to wait until tomorrow for your solar generation to start to charge the battery.

If you have an export MPAN, at least you will be paid for any excess solar that has been exported.

Do update us on whether this has done the trick.

Morning and it is sunny!

Having reset the breaker, I now appear to have battery storage working again. Thanks @Rbor for the guidance.

Still need to work out why the breaker tripped but that is for another day.

When I first had this problem, I had no idea of the cause.
I contacted GE and also searched around on the web and found this youtube video:

I reduced the power charge until the tripping stopped, contacted my installer, and they replaced the switch.

I would recommend that you contact installer.

Personally I would leave the switch on in the meantime but it is likely to trip again.
Looks like a common fault.

Thanks. I have contacted the installer and he is going to come and check the system.
