Hi
my installer has finished installing the AIO unit but had to use ethernet as the built in wifi was being difficult - no problem with being wired.
However some funny things going on with the battery charging.
I’m on Octopus Go tarrif with no solar panels but will be having an EV charger installed shortly.
The battery shows up as a device on the Octopus app but didn’t charge over night instead it sucked down 10kWH during the day ! and the battery was not powering the house but at times was back feeding into grid.
Clocks were set ok, so I went into the inverter settings and set a charging periond for 00.30 to 04.30 - we’ll see what happens tonight, but I thought the Go tarriff would automatically do this ?
I notice I have no "Automations " set and no means of selecting them.
All in all quite puzzled - the installer says he’ll take a look but was wondering if anyone had a ‘dummies guide’ as to how to configure with Octopus Go ?
FWIW I observed different behaviour when trying to configure Timed Charge through the web portal vs using the mobile app - the mobile app worked ok last night (yay!) whereas the previous night I’d set it through the MyInverter portal in the web UI and saw that it exited Eco Mode the moment I set the Timed Charge … which isn’t what I wanted.
To add to my confusion, when you install the mobile app, it appears that the battery charge options are hidden away - in the app you need to go Menu > Settings > Preferences, then there’s an option ‘Show System Modes Button’ that then reveals a button giving access to the inverter settings. They’re the same settings available in the web UI, but they seemed to work for me last night.
Those aren’t really actual modes, they’re kinda like macros for (e.g.) setting the AC charge slot 1 times to 00:00-23:59 or whatever. If you’re on a fixed-time dual-rate tariff like Go, then I’d advise that you just set the slot time (maybe in slot 2 so things which use slot 1 don’t overwrite them) and leave it be.
thanks for your helpful replies.
Looks like I went down a rabbit hole as my tarriff is Octopus GO (non intelligent) but I was expecting Octopus to control the battery and trying to set it up such that Octopus and GE would talk to each other.
As you pointed out this is not the case and it’s simply a matter of setting a timed charging slot etc.
Having set a timed slot all is working nicely now.
I’ve spoken to my installer he also thought I was on a smart Intelligent Go tarriff.
So all good now, thanks again Tim
Sounds like you are sorted :-) Always best to use a LAN cable and avoid Wi-Fi. I have two AIOs, both on LAN, as it the Gateway. I am also on Octopus Go. All the best :-)
