New installation but not working

Hi
I had my installation commissioned yesterday but the installer wasn’t able to get things fully functioning. They are going to return to resolve it but I was hoping to try and self-help.

At the moment I have updated the dongles with my WiFi details for the gateway and battery. The gateway appears online in the cloud but offline in the app. I believe it has latest firmware as there is no option to update it. (Gateway FW version: A0.010 / Dongle FW version: 10). Oddly the gateway is not showing any flow from the grid at all but there is definitely load to the house from the grid and the LEDs are lining-up in that direction.

The aio however is not functional. I have tried updating the software from its current Software version: D0.604-A0.604 / BMS version: 4 to new version: D0.613-A0.613 / BMS: 10. However everytimew I try the update fails and the aio stays offline. I have the option to download firmware but reading the notes I have to use a usb stick in the aio and each battery module I’m not comfortable doing that.

Is this anything I can do or should I just wait for the installer to return?

Thanks

Hey,
I had a GW and a AIO 13.5 installed in November. Im guessing as you mentioned GW that you have gone for something similar.

My first thought it. Whilst I’m sure your GW / Battery are connected to the internet directly as you can see it on the portal.
Do you also have a separate network cable directly from the GW going to the AIO so they can communicate to each other?

Bottom left of GW which you might not be able to see if bottom panel is on. Comms to AIO:

Then Bottom right port of AIO.

If that’s missing it might explain your problems.
As technically the AIO battery inverter does seem to be the controlling aspect in my APP / Portal and not necessarily the gateway even though mine works as all expected so communication between battery and GW is key.

Thanks
Bob

Hi, thanks for the reply. No the installer hasn’t connected an Ethernet cable between the gateway and aio. There is a WiFi dongle connected to the aio so I’m not sure if they were trying to do both over WiF because the Gareway is installed inside and the aio outside…? I will mention it to them though.

Hey,
That would explain the problem.

Let us know how it goes. Hope you get a quick resolve.

Thanks
Bob

Hi

“Yes the cable that we’ve used is called an EV ultra and it has a data cable inside” - installer

So they are connected. Must be something else going on… :man_shrugging:

Hey,
That would make sense. My installer used that cable between the Inverter and Gateway here.
Just incase it helps here is a picture of mine. Ignore the Dipswitch settings as you are on WIFI not Lan like myself.

However I have 2 cables into the AIO. Lan to the internet and one from the gateway to the GW in port (Gateway In Port).

Do you know if there’s anything actually plugged into the GW in port on the AIO. its 4 screws top right panel on the battery.
Don’t open it up if you aren’t confident though.

My only other thought would be if when wiring the ethernet adaptors on the end of the cable if all 4 twisted pairs of cables within the ethernet were all perfectly connected. Should be pretty simple to test with a cable tester by you installers.

Hope it helps.

Thanks
Bob

Hey,
P.S This is where there network cable plugs into the GW from the other end of the AIO in my previous image.

If that all lines up and the cable is definitely wired the installers my need to call Givenergy installer support whilst on site.

Thanks
Iain

Hi

Thanks for your continued help and photos.

I’ve checked mine and they look connected and installer says they did a patch cable test - ok.

They’ll be back next week - they’re so disappointed they couldn’t get it sorted before weekend for me. They’ve done a quite few aio installs (they’re Advanced installer status) and said some go in first time, some not so. I’m the latter sadly :weary::joy:

Ta

Gateway end

Hey,
I am wondering what the cable going into the LAN port on the GW is.

Whilst its labeled LAN in the installer manual. GE support confirmed it was wrong to use that to my installers. There’s a loose RJ45 cable in the GW which goes into a block to another cable for internet to that.

As you can see even though my GW is lan’d in that port is empty.

Just food for thought.

Sorry i couldn’t help anymore. Fingers crossed its a quick resolve.

Thanks
Bob

I think my issues are all software and networks related. I checked my router and I can only see the gateway connected and it’s ip address, nothing for the aio. I may try a dongle firmware update…

I work in I.T. so am comfortable with this side of things but I must admit their implementation seems a bit clunky if I’m honest.

Hi

I can’t quite see where that LAN cable is going but it’s going up into the top section of the gateway. I wondered if it’s to connect to the WiFi dongle perhaps?

Hey Chuckstar, im exactly the same. Work in I.T but been learning the power side going from this experience.

Is the dip switches set correctly for WIFI on the AIO?

This might help.

Hey, I think I managed to get the system going

Once I updated the AIO inverter and BMS firmwares to the latest and did a couple of reboots everything seemed to come to life. Battery did a charge upto 5% then stopped. I’ve configured the Timed Charge and Discharge to align with my iGO cheap rate.

Fingers crossed!!

Thanks

If you have just done a firmware update - then this might also force a SOC - which will charge/discharge the batteries to make sure they are OK and balanced etc…

So check your logs on the Website to see what events ( if any are still in progress ).

Installer has not sorted everything and the system is working like a charm

Hey Chuckstar,
That’s great news. Glad to hear its all up and running. Enjoy it. Its quite fun!

When the opportunity arises do an EPS test by cutting your isolator. Just so you know what to expect in a power outage.

I have seen some people on here say they have issues so worth ironing out before you need it in a real emergency.

Enjoy the journey.

Thanks
Bob

My installer did that with me and it was really neat to see it switch over with all but the slightest flutter of a lightbulb. Even the WiFi stayed online - impressive.

What’s the lightbulb with the £ at the 10 o’clock position? Thanks

Hi Mike, if you input your tarrif information to the app, then enable ‘smart tarrif’, that bulb will show the estimated current cost (Red) or profit (grey in dark mode) from electricity usage.
