NTP Synchronisation

Hello Everyone,

I don’t know if this is a suggestion or a question, but I am surprised that there isn’t a setting to set the time in the inverter or GivEnergy equipment to tie to an NTP server.

I have my own running, in Home Assistant using Crony. That is then tied to the National Physical Laboratory NTP service at ntp1.npl.co.uk or ntp2.npl.co.uk which gives the UK national time signal (used to be the “Rugby” Clock") that National Grid the stock market etc all use. You could directly tie the equipment to the NPL site if you wanted to if that option were available. (or any NTP)

Devices installed with Tasmota, which are far less complicated that the Inverter, are able to tie to an NTP time signal, so it would probably make a lot more sense if the GivEnergy devices are.

I’m sure there is a reason for it but I cannot think why?

Thanks

Shunts…

I also tried to look at this when it was first installed and could not even figure out where is even sync’d it’s time, it is not using port 123.

So I assume it is doing it via it’s own time checks at the GivEnergy end.

But I also work in IT and “Accurate” time isn’t as important as “Consistent” time, and if you are trying to sync data from all the inverters etc… into a backend database for all the graphs and reporting / everything - the have a Consistent time is the way to go.

it’s always nice to have both Consistent and Accurate time - but consistent time source rhat you are in control of as a business is the way to go when you have lots of data coming from many different sources/
