Octopus R&D schedule and eco-mode problem

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this and could help.

I’ve been using the Octopus R&D schedule feature to control my Givenergy system. I’ve got 3 specific charge periods and 1 discharge period set during a 24hr cycle to match the cheap energy rates I have on my tarrif.

This was working perfectly until the 28th March.

Looking at the logs for my inverter, I can see that on the 27th Mar (and all days pervious) Eco-mode was automatically re-enabled after every charge or discharge period.
From the 28th March onwards these commands no longer seem to be being sent meaning that my battery charges to 100% and then sits idle as it’s not in Eco-mode.

I’ve emailed Octopus R&D to ask them this question as well, but just wondered if anyone here had any advice?

Thanks!

when I was looking for inverter automation a number of people were using Octopus R&D, but even then 18 months ago there were reports about it not being very reliable so I went down the Home Assistant route

I used Octopus R&D for a while before I discovered predbat.

It usually worked but sometimes missed slots (I was trying to get R&D) to choose the lowest Agile slots for charging). So it wasn’t the most reliable.

I haven’t used it now for about 15 months.

I used Octo R&D scheduler about 3 years ago, but found it unreliable (I dont know if that was Octo servers, GivEnergy servers and/or the internet that was the issue), so I went down the HA route and used the inbuilt templates for fixed time slots and then “graduated” to Predbat as I became more confident. Works great

My pattern was much the same.

2 years ago, I used R&D with Agile and it performed well (overall) but it had the habit of missing slots.

I saw ‘Predbat’ being mentioned in forums and decided that I had to investigate HA and Predbat.
I have not looked back now nearly 2 years with Predbat, an amazing piece of work.
Quite a steep learning curve but well worth the effort.
