RFID tags not working

Hi there,

I can’t get the RFID tags that came with my Givenergy EV charger to start the charger. I have added them under “manage ID tags” in settings in the EV charger app using IDs of the form NO.1300xxxx but when I hold them by the sensor sign on the EV charger there is a beep but nothing happens.

Anything I’m missing in the set-up?

To charge your car using the RFID tags that came with your GivEnergy EV Charger (GE EVC), follow these steps:

  1. Ensure RFID is Enabled
    • Open the GivEnergy app (or portal).
    • Go to Settings for your EV Charger.
    • Make sure RFID authentication is enabled in the charger settings.

  2. Register RFID Tags
    • In the app or web portal, go to RFID Management.
    • Tap or scan a tag on the RFID reader area of the charger (usually near the LED ring or marked icon).
    • The app should prompt you to register the tag — give it a name (e.g., “Julie’s Tag”) and save.

  3. Start Charging with an RFID Tag
    • Plug your car into the charger.
    • Tap the registered RFID tag on the front of the charger.
    • The charger should authorize the session and start charging (LED will change to show active charging — typically green).

  4. Stop Charging
    • Tap the same RFID tag again to end the charging session, or unplug the car if charging has completed.

Troubleshooting:
• If the tag isn’t recognized, try re-registering it in the app.
• Make sure your firmware is up to date via the GivEnergy app.
• If the RFID feature is disabled, the charger may start automatically without requiring a tag.

Thanks very much for the reply.

I don’t have the option in the app or portal settings to enable RFID authentication - just the option to manage ID tags. This is where I have tried to add them by using the ID number on the tag.

I tried removing them and adding by holding them next to the sensor on the EV charger. But the app does not give any notification to add them.

My firmware is up to date.

I guess I’ll need to get on the phone to GivEnergy!

Thanks for trying to help.

Hmm, interesting, I never knew there were rfid tags!

I’ve got them, (now I know what they are, had thought they were keyfobs!) , they just came with all the paperwork but no-one said anything about them, I’m guessing the installer didn’t know either.

Anyway, we’ve mostly (95%) used a timed overnight charging slot, or the ‘plug & charge’ setting for the other 5%.

But I can see how they could be useful. We do see reports of anonymous cars parked on others drives, plugged in & charging. RFID tags stop that.

I too don’t have the option to activate or deactivate a tag, just a settings option to ‘manage rfid tags’.

You add them in the app or cloud. Click the add button, type in the grid number give it a name and expiration date (I have not added a date).

I then plug in the car, wait a min, then touch the rfid on the EVC over the rfid symbol.

If you car does not charge I would check your charging settings, as it maybe restricting it during the day or from the grid etc. try plug and go setting from the grid, to test it works, then change the settings back to what you would like.

Here is a screen shot, I have only added one tag. (But you get 2 with the EVC)

Thanks @daveb01 Is the “grid number” you enter the number on the tag of the form NO.1300xxxx? Or something else?

Yes you enter the number on the tag and give it an Alias. I would add both and test both.

Ok thanks - that’s what I thought I had done but will try again. Thanks for your help.

@daveb01 sorry one more question just to be completely clear I’m trying the right thing. Do you include the NO. in the grid number or just the 8 digits?

Just the 8 digits
