Scheduled discharge but tariff-based at other times?

Being on the Octopus Agile tariff I get half-hourly pricing. 4-7pm everyday is consistently higher priced and so I want to ensure my energy needs at this time are always met my discharging the battery. This is working fine.

However, it means that outside this time the battery will only charge and so in practice it’s often full while demand is met by the grid.

It’s possible that the battery could discharge and charge once or twice during this period, especially if it can charge intelligently at cheaper periods.

I don’t see how I could configure it to do so though. This is how I’d love to set it up:

  • Always charged to 100% by 4pm
  • Discharge only 4-7pm
  • At all other times, charge during the cheapest 30 minute segments, discharge during the most expensive 30 segments.

If not via the GivEnergy app, is there an API I could use to make my own system?

There is an API, but before you head down that road you may want to look at what others have done.
