I noticed the smart tariff beta in my givenergy cloud portal today. It’s scope is quite unclear.
I’ve added my IOG import and export MPANs, Octopus account number, and Octopus API key
I’ve set the smart tariff parameters to charge when the rate is less than 8p/kwh, and discharge above 8p/kwh.
Will the battery now charge during IOG EV smart charge windows at the IOG off-peak rate?
That’s my assumption, but the portal gives no clarity.
If not, I’ll revert to my Home Assistant Automation to manage the Inverter charge/discharge aligned to IOG smart charge windows and overnight off-peak period - more complex and error prone, so would rather the givenergy cloud portal worked with the octopus API to manage battery charge dueing any off-peak rate window.
Thank you,
Nick
I’ve made the same settings as you and enabled it…so I will see what it does over the next few days - most interestingly when I plug in the car and get windows outside of the overnight period.
I think it was never import above this price, rather than discharge. So I’m hopeful it’ll just import during those windows and then discharge as usage dictates.
More setting appear once you’ve configured it the first time:
I meant to reply here sooner but kept forgetting…
I’ve had this enable for the past few weeks and whilst it does set my battery to force charge overnight during the IOG 7p rate, it does not adjust when I plug my EV in and get extra 7p windows during the day.
This is a little disappointing as it means the EV drains my battery, and then later when the rate goes back up, I have to import electricity.
I was hoping the API and logic would adjust the force charge window of the battery to align with the new 7p slots given by Intelligent Octopus Go. This can be done via Home Assistant / other home automation but if it can be integrated into the GivEnergy app then more people would benefit and it simplifies the setup.
