When I manually set the time to charge battery during 02.00 to 05.00hrs and export during 16.00 to 19.00 hrs it sets but when I go back to settings after an hour the times have reverted to the wrong times. What am I doing wrong please? I am on Octopus Intelligent Flux for export and Octopus Flux for import. Please help. TIA
If you are on intelligent flux for import you should be on that for export too. They are a combined tariff. You shouldn’t be able to have a mix and match
Likewise the same for normal flux. It’s flux import and flux output. No other combinations allowed.
I think you need to get in touch with octopus and get them to sort it
If you want intelligent flux you have to hand over control of your battery charging and discharging to octopus. You cannot control it. They are in control.
If you don’t want that, then you may want to go for the normal flux not the intelligent one.
Thank you for your response.
Octopus themselves recommended I go onto the different tariffs for export & import so I’m even more confused.
I have deleted the tariffs in the GivEnergy app in the hope I could then control the times but to no avail so with the greatest respect it seems Octopus do not control the times. I find to be able to speak to a human at Octopus very frustrating and hoped someone could help out on the community forum.
I am also unable to update the system via the GivEnergy portal because it failed twice and consequently caused the inverter to not be able to connect with the battery. I solved the issue from reading posts on this forum eventually. Once again thank you but I am still in need of advice regarding the original problem.
Hi, I’ve just had PV fitted with battery etc, 3 weeks ago and have exactly the same problem with the settings not holding, 100% the same as you. I’m interested in a solution, I’m I doing something wrong???
Hey,
If you go in to the logs it might give you an idea what is overriding the setting.
Its how i found out my Givenergy EV charger was overriding my AIO charging rate.
My workaround for that was to set the EV charger back to a standalone configuration instead of Inverter Control - Cloud.
You can check the logs by going to your inverter, clicking on the cog.
Then going to the log at the bottom. You should see something like this:
Hopefully it will shed a light as to what is changing the setting for you.
Thanks
Bob
The Intelligent Flux tariff (import & export, its how that tariff works), gives Octopus full control over your battery, so you’ll have none, no matter what you do, only way to get control back is to swap tariff to a different Import and sign up for an export deal with them.
It’s why I didn’t go for that tariff. We went with the basic Octopus Go. (But have since moved to Eon as it’s cheaper for longer overnight).
The battery now runs the house most days after charging overnight on the cheaper rate.
That’s interesting Dave. I have deleted Octopus as a tariff in the GE app and have manually set the charge/discharge times again so time will tell if those times hold. May I ask what tariff are you on. I notice their best rates are if they installed the solar panels is that correct? I had an independent Company fit my system.
Thanks Bob. I went into the inverter setting on the app but couldn’t see any logs, only time charge/discharge and eco options.
Hey David,
You can’t see granular logs in the app as of yet. Hopefully it comes in the future. You will be able to see them on the web login.
Thanks
Bob
P.s it’s alot easier to navigate on a full pc. But if you have to do It on the phone browser.
It will be bottom right button the 3 dots.
My inverters
You will see the cog I mentioned in previous post then logs are near the bottom.
Thanks
Bob
Hi Dave, Im not sure deleting the tariff in the app does anything wrt the tariff or whether Octopus control anything, the tariff settings in the app are there to give you a clue on yr spending. But as Octopus controlling yr battery is the main reason to use Intelligent Flux, it’s part of the T’s & C’s, and I’ve heard of others who’d stopped allowing Octopus control being moved onto their standard variable tariff at some point.
It’s best to move yourself (you can do it yourself on the app) onto another Octopus tariff, poss standard Flux? Or standard Go (if you have an EV?, not sure they check, might be worth asking in one of the Octopus user groups.
We’re now on the Eon Next Drive tariff, (as neither our ev charger or the car are Octopus intelligent compatible, so couldn’t use it).
It’s 6.7p from midnight to 0700. Standing charge is a bit higher but I did my sums 1st and it’s still cheaper than standard Octopus Go. (Which does qualify for Octopus’s 15p/kWh export rate since October).
Export, it’s just the Eon standard rate, 16.5p /kWh. (If you have Eon fit yr solar and/or battery, you should be able to get 20p/kWh, before October it was 40p but they didn’t publicise that anywhere that I saw, otherwise I’d have used them!)
It’s taken me three months since I changed tariff from Intelligent Flux back to Oct. Go/Outgoing Oct. to finally find out that Octopus KEPT control of my battery until last week. Having now revoked the permission to access my system, all is working OK.
Thanks Peter. May I ask if you revoked the capability of Octopus controlling the battery via the app or website? Or did you have to speak to the Company?
If you did it yourself where on the site or app is the means to revoke Octopus from controlling the battery please? Thanks . David
Dave (and anyone else who wants to know), Here’s how to revoke access to Octopus through GE Cloud (NOT via app.) On LH side of screen, symbol with figure & cog sign is ‘Account Settings’, in that go to top RH, ‘Manage Account Security’… page down look for ‘Delegate Access’ If it shows Octopus has access: Revoke. Question: should Octopus have advised me when I switched from Flux back to GO/Outgoing that they still had access to settings?
Peter. You are outstanding. I followed your detailed instructions and can now confirm it WORKED!!!
I now have full control of the timings with the ability to quickly change the charge and export when Octopus have the free electricity periods. I am still on Intelligent flux for export and flux for import. Once again thank you for sharing. Dave
