I have a Gen 1 system. It’s working well. I’ve never updated any firmware. Unless any updates have been applied automatically, the system remains as was 5 years ago. (Apart from replacing a dodgy dongle. Could I get any response from GE support! Thanks to this forum for helping me through the replacement). I can’t see a Gen 1 system update log on the GE website to find out what version I should be on.
My question is, should I bother to try updating? Or am I likely to encounter problems I can do without?
There are minimal updates for the original Gen1
What version are you on
Thanks for reply Dragon. Firmware versions are…
Inverter: D0.449-A0.449
Dongle: 102 (dongle replaced just 1 week ago!)
Battery: 1037
Ok. That is a LoRa special version.
Do you have a radio link between your inverter and Meters?
If so i canot swap to A453.
Hi Dragon. What’s a ‘LoRa’ special version? And I’ve no idea about ‘radio’ links - which presumably means I don’t have one! I believe my system is installed as per normal spec.
If my system is working ok (apart from ignoring battery reserve level - which probably doesn’t really matter - I assume there’s no reason why I shouldn’t let it drop to 4%) would I just be inviting potential problems by trying to upgrade firmware? There are postings on this forum about problems arising from upgrades.
Thanks.
A453 - RTCL Function added.zip (95.1 KB)
Then load this
once back online, the RTCL option will show
Thanks Dragon but can you please let me know,
-
If my system is functioning ok, is there any point in installing the update?
-
What’s goes with the files you uploaded? There are 2 ‘.bin’ files and no instructions as to what to do with them?
Thanks
If your system is working fine then there is no real advantage to upgrading. As The Dragon said, there have been minimal firmware changes to the gen 1 inverters.
The new file he attached above contains real time register functionality, useful if you are making lots and lots of inverter control commands, e.g. have multiple inverters and are balancing them, but for most ordinary uses they are not essential.
Instructions for upgrading the firmware are on the givenergy site, just google it. You basically copy the files onto the dongle.
But with no givenergy support any more I wouldn’t upgrade in case it fails.
