For the less intelligent (e.g me) on this forum, can someone please post a thread summarizing what would happen should the GivEnergy portal go “off”, and what potential solutions might exist to keep our systems alive.
ie would ;-
HA/Predbat still work?
Android inverter monitor app still work?
etc
TIA Steve
people on the main community site are working on it as we write/read

That link doesn’t work - not looking good, is it…
I just placed an order for a second AIO…
I’ve downloaded the “Inverter” app onto my old Android phone, it costs £10 for full control functionality and it seems to be doing the trick with my old Hybrid inverter.
More details here - Timed charge, timed export and Eco together ? Can it be done? - #29 by Mr.Whippy Scroll to the bottom.
I read somewhere that there is also an apple version that runs on an Iphone or Ipad, but not on a Mac.
Dave.
If the givenergy servers stop working for whatever reason then you’ll retain LOCAL control to your inverter, i.e.:
- Home Assistant using GivTCP or GivLocal
- Predbat if you run that on top
- The BBC basic inverter app (iOS, Android, Mac, lots of platforms)
- Rubik Cube Android app (free and £10 premium version)
You will lose all remote control of your inverter, i.e.:
- GivEnergy Portal
- GivEnergy App (even in local mode as it checks your account with the portal first)
- Any other cloud service such as Wonderwatt, MyEnergy Optimiser, Predbat.com, Octopus R&D, Axle VPP
Its unclear to what extent the inverter will be affected by not being able to ‘phone home’, in many respects its like an extended internet outage. More testing being done on this
This will be bad news for anyone with an EMS device as most of these online services do not play nice with the EMS. HA does work but needs a decent amount of setup.
Just picking up on the EMS point - as an EMS user I’m not convinced ‘local mode’ works in the app. Can anyone confirm it does work?
It does. Though that is is faster info updates. I still do not know if the ge servers go down if the app will function at all.
If you have GE portal…you will see “community” down the left side - click that and you see the chats
Here: GivEnergy Community Forum (Beta) - GivEnergy Official Forum
There: GivEnergy Community Forum (Orig)
Giv’s own app won’t work if the portal is down (I think it has to check the portal to prove ownership or something like that).
And for anyone struggling with the other forum, you won’t see any posts at all unless you register then logon.
So if those links don’t appear to work, go to the homepage of the forum and select the register option
