I have had an update notice for my batteries to update from 3017 to 3020.
But as usual no release notes - so is 3020 new or has it been out for some time, and does anyone know whats new / changed ?

3020 is the latest new firmware
biggest change is point 4, previously the battery slowed down charging when temperature was 20 degrees, now that threshold is reduced to 10 degrees
no changelogs?
there posted on every forum ever FB group too
Only on this Forum and thats it…
And it seems this is no longer maintained Low voltage firmware revisions | GivEnergy , and I did a google search and found nothing .
Hopefully the updates to an actual offical website will happen.
But no issues since the uprade.
Can I just add there is a giv knowledge base and I can’t see the changelog or firmware on there?
there is. Thats question for the service desk. Im not willng to comment on the workings of that KB.
Since I upgraded my battery to version 3020, it has had some problems which have become regular last weekend. I charge the battery in the morning and discharge it in the evening but the mobile and web apps show the battery stuck at 100% when discharging. I have to reset the battery to get the apps to notice that the battery is exporting its power. I looks like GivEnergy are going to recalibrate the battery.
it doesn’t help you - but mine is all working fine - App / Webpage and Home Assistant
But I did an Calibration last month - so maybe thats changes things.
I did this upgrade in consultation with a GE operative and they insisted a calibration was needed and so was actioned.
I’ve had no issues s8ncecthe upgrade
So with 3020, the battery charges at full rate down to 10 degrees, rather than the 60% between 10-20 of 3017 ?
that’s my understanding yes
I’ve just done the 3017->20 upgrade.
It didn’t recalibrate afaics; its running normally but after it hit 100% from PV gen it carried on charging for ~1hr15m or so at ~200W. Is this the expected behaviour now or is there an issue?
I did the 3020 upgrade on my 5.2 battery as well today, also no recalibration from 3015 to 3020, but I will probably manually run one in a day or so as its been over a year since the last recalibration and on my 9.5 battery at least one cell voltage diverges from the others.
It sounds like this is probably normal behaviour, the new BMS trickle charges when it gets above 90% which is kinder to the battery. The BMS is also supposed to self-calibrate so this is probably what you saw
How do you manually run it?
in the givenergy portal, inverters, remote control. about half way down the screen
you can program the calibration start time
once you schedule a calibration you can’t stop or cancel it, so make sure you get the times right! You can however change the charge and discharge power levels so to slow down import when rates are high for example.
Doing a slow rate calibration also helps with calibration accuracy as well
Sorry is this via the app. I’m looking at my cloud on my PC (my inverter - settings has the other options) and I don’t see a remote control?
Do you mean slow just on charge or discharge as well and how slow is slow in this context?
no, its not via the app, you have to use the givenergy portal to initiate the calibration
you can vary both the discharge and charge speed when the calibration is running such as to ensure the battery discharges and changes when its cost advantageous to do so.
In terms of the calibration itself I have only heard that varying the charge rate is beneficial, to do a slow rate charge rather than full rate, discharge can be at full rate.
How slow? I’ve heard 30-40% is worthwhile. It’s pretty much what I charge my batteries from solar on anyway as I use a trickle charge to reduce inverter clipping by charging as well as exporting. The trickle charge means the batteries don’t fill up until the afternoon as opposed to early morning if it were a full rate charge
Ah nm…I’ve found remote control! thanks (clicked on read but its not set to on so I assume I have done no harm)
Lowering my charge rate on the PV sounds a good idea for summer. Should of thought of that
I’m carrying ~60% overnight. So idk 1300W perhaps?
Glad to hear you found it! I charge my 9.5kWh battery at 1100W during the morning, then increase it to 1300W for the afternoon in case it hasn’t been that sunny in the morning and to ensure its full before the end of the day.
If your battery is consistently never discharging to empty then its likely that the inverter will loose track of the state of charge, and you’ll occasionally see a big jump in the SoC when it realises its mistake. It’s worthwhile discharging the battery to empty every now and again (say weekly, every couple of weeks) to prevent this happening.
Since I use trickle charging of my battery to reduce clipping I actually fully discharge the battery every morning from 5am-8:30am, so it doesn’t start charging (at the slower rate) until 8:30am.
But personal preference to all these things
