Calling non-Octopus Energy customers with GivEnergy equipment!

GivEnergy has an exciting new opportunity to test out a new feature we have created in partnership with KrakenFlex. This feature allows users of GivEnergy equipment to support the grid and earn money monthly while doing so.

It will involve installing the new GivBack app (Android or iOS) and following an onboarding process for your inverter. You’ll need to be willing to prioritise GivBack services. Initially there will also be a 3 month waiting period to receive any payouts.

If you would be interested in joining the beta programme, please DM @ivangiv the email address associated with your app store account and we’ll get you added to the testing track!

FAQs

I’m on Octopus. Why can’t I join?

  • Due to the association with KrakenFlex this feature is only available to non-Octopus customers. Octopus have excellent but unfortunately mutually exclusive grid service support schemes that you can take part in, please see their website for details.

If my inverter is prioritising supporting the grid, can I still use it for other purposes like reducing peak usage?

  • When signing up, you’ll select whether you are on a time-of-use tariff. If you have cheaper energy overnight, Kraken will attempt to charge your battery at cheaper times, for use in both grid services and for discharge during peak times if there is no event in progress.

What are the advantages of this scheme?

  • Due to grid-supporting schemes, payouts for energy exported during events can be significantly higher than usual, making you more money. Our distributed network of batteries provide a resilience to the national grid, as well as reduce the carbon load of the grid by avoiding the need to bring fossil fuels online. It’s really a win-win-win scheme.

Why “closed” beta?

  • Before we allow the general public to sign up, we want to get user feedback from customers like you who can give us advice for how to better structure the product. Your honest and thoughtful feedback will give us

How long will this scheme last?

  • We’re expecting to run the closed beta for approximately 3 weeks, to allow us to test various aspects of the service and collect feedback from customers. After this, we’ll make improvements based on this and then broaden our target market.

When will I get my money?

  • We realise that committing your inverter to a beta product may increase your energy bills in the short term. As you might appreciate, dealing with payments increases the complexity of the product and we need to get it right. Therefore we will be delaying all payouts for the first 3 months. We ask for your patience!

Does this support EMS users? Or is this for single inverter systems only?

Currently with EON Next Drive

does it support AIO in Parallel.
Tomato user here and have lots of spare capacity if this is a seperate to Octopus scheme, direct with Kraken

Thanks for your question. Any inverter system that can be controlled via API is eligible, so yes this does include EMS users. And in fact we would appreciate a spread of different equipment topologies for our testing. However we are going to be prioritising support for the more common systems first so if there are technical difficulties with the EMS control it may take some time before they are resolved - in which case you would be free to leave the scheme until such a time that you can be properly supported.

Yes, AIO in parallel should be supported. This is separate to Octopus and Kraken would be controlling the inverter through their systems. As per the terms Octopus customers may not sign up for this scheme even if they would prefer to use this scheme instead of Octopus’s scheme.

Any information on the scale of payouts?
Currently with OVO on a 10p per kWh overnight (and occasionally day) ‘Battery Boost’ and 20p per kWh SEG.
How does this compare?

Great, happy to test it it out along with everything else I am testing :-) Have already dm’d you. Cheers

@Mikes I think this might be another way to join the savings sessions octopus run. But will see…

Not willing to jump ship from OVO where potential savings are clear(ish), to a scheme where they’re not stated before subscribing.
Not interested in savings that are described as between 15p and £2.50 per kWh as we all know what that means!

Oh I was with octopus until 2 months ago, the last few sessions worked out about 20p, but on top of their 15p export so 35. I didn’t bother. With EON now until I move house (or rather if)

I have had nothing but problems with my solar panels. Not connecting to the internet and always offline . Octopus can’t connect to them either

Hi Mikes,

I completely understand your motivation to want to understand the payouts before signing up, unfortunately during the Beta test we would not be able to confirm that. I will provide that information as soon as I have it.

We will of course try to be as fair to the participants as possible, but if you are already on a scheme that is working for you, participation in our Beta may not be the optimal earner for you.

Thanks for your interest though and please let me know if you would like me to add you to the test.

Is this similar to the giveback program I signed up to over the winter ?
Will I still earn my Eon SEG payment as well as the giveback rewards or will this replace my SEG payment?

It will be as well, totally different reward systems.

Brilliant thank you

I would like to get involved and try out this project but I’m unable to DM at the moment as I’m new to this forum.

Just press the person’s name at the top of the page and press message.

I don’t get message come up as I’m new ?

Hi I’m interested in the project but I can’t DM you,

How can I join please

Hi I’ve replied to your DM

Not sure if you can see it ?

Hi everyone, an update on this: we are ironing out some issues with the integration and we will need another couple of weeks before we’re ready to go live with the beta.

In the meantime please do raise any questions you have, and encourage anyone else you know with GivEnergy equipment to sign up!
