Anyone else have issues with the EV chargers going offline and in my case staying offline?
Spent hours on a chat with the support and that was as much use as a chocolate teapot. In the end they said I had to speak to my installer.
I have spoken to them and it seems that they are having issues with GE in that the firmware for the chargers is causing issues and GE are not providing any solution at the moment.
System has been working for 8 months with no “issues” - I wont go into the problems I have had with the car (a mini) and my electricity provider (octopus) talking to each other but now its just a heap of junk on the side of my house!
Hi yah and welcome to the tread. There are a number of things that could cause this, however you have said it’s been working for 8 months, what’s recently changed do you think that’s now caused this issue?
Its on Wifi and as far as I can see nothing has changed in the router or mt set up.
That was the first thing GE said was the signal was now too weak so I bought a repeater and that made no change.
Its going to be hard to hard wire its as the charger is on the side of the house and the router is in the front room. My installer is saying given this keep happening with GE chargers we may have to do this if its the firm ware acting up.
Thanks for the quick reply. Do you know if your getting and 26:ground leak errors? This can cause the EVC to shut down and have to restart? Please have a look in the cloud under Errors tab
The next thing to look at is GE devices do not like 5g WiFi only 2.4 so if it keeps going off line it maybe this issue, you should look at turning 5gz off for this device if your router allows this.
The next thing is to look at security WPA, GE only work on WPA2
I can screen shot my EVC settings if you would like to compare?
Well I have never used the cloud login before and its does not look good.
I got in and from what I can see there is actually no EV charger on the cloud!
Hi yeh, hhmmm that does not look good as all of your devices should have been registered with GE and appread in the GE Cloud.
Below is what mine looks like, plus all my inverters. If you don’t see any then you will have to phone or email GE to see if your installer has given you the correct login details or did not add your devices correctly.
The engineer came round and worked on the connection and linked my charger to the Dongle rather than direct to the router. Apparently its getting to be a common problem with GE systems in that GE only works on 2.4GHz but routers switch to other speeds and this is causing issues with firmware and forcing the charger off line.
Now the charger is connected to the dongle in the loft , which is only ever 2.4GHz, its a bit harder getting in (fails about 50% of the time) but the charger is online and its working.
Also for some reason the cloud application is now showing all the systems as you had Dave. No idea why that was not working properly but may have had something to do with the connection.
I have a router that allows multiple networks. I put the Givenergy stuff on a dedicated 2.4g network which seems to avoid the problem. I think where you have networks that can switch between 2.4 and 5 it causes problems. Annoying!
My EV charger often shows offline in the app. But when I look at the charger middle light is solid blue. My charger is in the garage within 3ft of the inverter.
I did start to wonder if it showed offline when Octopus Intelligent was taking control of charging process but not sure.
