Free GivEnergy Premium Subscription - Make Money with your GivEnergy Battery

:battery: Free GivEnergy Premium with Axel Energy VPP + £25 Referral Bonus!

Hi everyone,

With the recent launch of GivEnergy Premium (£4.99/month), many of us have been looking at options for our home setups. If you want to keep your premium cloud portal/app features (like full API access for Home Assistant, historical reports, and remote access) entirely free of charge, Axel Energy has just stepped up with a fantastic offer.

If you join the Axle Virtual Power Plant (VPP), Axel will cover the cost of your GivEnergy Premium subscription. Plus, you’ll earn their guaranteed minimum of £10/month just for participating in grid events (often more if you export during peak events at £1/kWh!).

If you want to sign up and grab a free £25 sign-up bonus added straight to your account, you can use my personal referral link here:

Note: The sign-up window for this specific promotion runs until the end of October 2026, so it’s definitely worth locking it in now.

How to set it up (Step-by-Step):

1. Re-authenticate / Sign up

If you are an existing Axel user, look for the alert banner under your Account Settings tab to get started. If you are new, click the referral link above to create an account.

2. Connect your GivEnergy Device

Follow the on-screen prompt to initiate the secure authorization flow.

3. Pass Single Sign-On (SSO)

If your GivEnergy account has recently migrated to the new Single Sign-On service, you’ll be prompted to log in using your updated identity credentials.

4. Grant API Permissions

Authorize Axle Energy to have control via the secure GivEnergy API. This allows them to automate your battery charging and discharging logic during peak grid windows to maximize your revenue.

5. All Done!

Once authorized, you’ll see the welcome screen. Axel handles the premium subscription activation on the backend with GivEnergy automatically.

If you already paid for the £4.99 premium tier directly through GivEnergy, just make sure to cancel your active direct subscription once you link your account so Axel can take over the billing.

Let me know if you run into any issues with the API integration or the SSO step!

Fantastic that worked for me as an existing Axle Energy user!

What’s the catch?

Or Axel can still make enough money leveraging your storage to pay you £10 plus Givenergy £5 per month?

For now, it appears so. If things change and you want out, you can withdraw your consent to Axle Energy controlling your battery. Don’t forget the offer to cover your GivEnergy Premium membership expires October 2026.

I’ve been using Axle Energy for a while now; it’s been working without issues - they always reset my battery’s settings automatically after each event (usually 1 or 2 per month).

Interesting. Sounds like the battery keeps your schedule (e.g. charge over night 11:30-5:30 or whatever you set) but then when events occur they set your battery to charge/discharge during those windows?

Yes, that’s right. All your existing charge/discharge/export settings will get reverted after a grid event. I would recommend you check after the first time you take part in an event, but personally, I have had no issues.

Hi out curiosity where did you see that the axle premium tier expires in October. Cheers

If you watch Gary does Solar, he talks to one person from axle, and they said the Premium status does not end in October, it is just the link they have sent everyone will expire in October.

Hi is anybody else having trouble getting the Axle free access to work? I have followed the steps and re-authenticated my Axle account. It now shows that I have full access

But when I log into givenergy app it says I require a premium account. I then get into a doom loop between Axle and giv apps.

Any advice would be welcome.

Same issue here. At first, GivEnergy was showing the premium as active, but it soon changed back to limiting what I can access and giving me the option to subscribe.

Axle settings page shows:

You’re all set for GivEnergy premium access

No sign of the referral bonus working either.

Does signing up to Axel mess up with your Octopus Smart Tariff, OF or OIF? Since neither are now available to customers.

I don’t belive it does, I’m on a fixed octopus go tariff and signed upto Axle about 3 months ago. It didn’t affect my octopus account. Good news is you get paid from Axle and Octopus current balance in Axle account is over £50. Now if I can get the Axle account free access to Givenergy to work it will save me the monthly charge as well.

Same issue here. It was working fine yesterday and today I’m locked out.

In an email from Axle Energy yesterday, they confirmed referrals to givenergy users is paused but referrals to users with other supported batteries will continue as normal.

Same issue here, process to sign up appears to work fine and premium access is granted but disappears shortly. Axle portal still shows premium enabled.

If I go through the reconnect device process on the axle process it re enables on GivEnergy app but vanishes shortly each time.

Strangely it never shows any detail on health check in the axle site for the battery as I believe it is supposed to even during periods when GivEnergy app is premium enabled.

Anyone managed to solve this?

Same. Fine yesterday after re-authenticating but today I get the pay wall when i try to access the GE portal.

I’ve sent a message to Axle but the problem may be GE’s

As if by magic just opened the Givenergy app and it lets me access all the functions. I’m hoping this is teething problems and not a long term issue.

Yep, it’s back for me too!

Mine seems to be holding for longer than before so fingers crossed just a little teething issue.

Does anyone see any battery information or reference to your battery at all in settings page of axle dashboard?

Has anyone with Octopus Intelligent Go tried this? I would like to but since Octopus have control over my ZAPPI charger I’m thinking there might be a conflct - maybe not because the battery management is separate. Any advice?

Gary does Solar has a video all about Axle. This should answer your question.
