I’m a new user of the Gateway and it would seem extremely helpful for a non tech like me to receive an outage notification from the app, especially overnight.
Hi yah and welcome to the tread. Unfortunately there is not a GE process at the moment to get a notification in the app when there is a grid outage.
The post above is how to get it working if you have Home Assistant.
If we ever find a way to get a notification in the GE app I will post it here.
Thanks Dave, it just seems such a no brainer. In the event of an outage, if the gateway is working as it should, we won’t know it! We need to know to implement any energy saving tactics. Let’s hope they see the light (!)
Yes, you are getting the dreaded &20 for a space.

How about having a light plugged into a socket on the grid side of the AIO?
Light off = no power
or an alarm like this : Automatic power failure alarm system . | eBay
Even cheaper on aliexpress or temu Automatic 220V Power Failure Alarm White 120db LED Power Cut Siren Indicator - AliExpress 34
Thanks Geoffrey. It’s food for thought, but would need some new wiring as everything is now downside of the Gateway.
Yes it would need a socket on the upstream side of the gateway if absolutely everything is connected via the gateway,
Which probably wouldn’t be a bad thing to give some option if the gateway died horribly (I know there is a bypass switch, but this would give a further fallback).
My inverter has a lower 2.6kW max output so my EPS doesn’t cover the kitchen nor electric showers, so would be easier for me to fit.
It would be possible in some cases but for most it would mean a huge expense. The main armoured cable goes from the meter directly to the Gateway, then another to the house CU. You would have to cut the main cable to the Gateway, insert a fuse box with a socket.
I think a simple integration into the GE app would be the best option for GW owners as a starter. But how to do this is the issue for GE.
Hi all, it’s time to do a test if you have not done it this year.
We have been having conversations on what happens to the GE Kit in three scenarios.
I have just tested number 3 today. As my kit was in the ideal state for number 3.
All GOOD
Confirmation from Paul L. Your home will run on battery until it gets to 90%, then if there is solar, it will allow solar to charge the battery and run the house.
- Battery not full, a bit of solar
- Battery full, but just enough Solar to support the house load
- Battery full, Solar above house load.
