How do I stop an API from taking my inverter over?
I don’t know what API has taken my inverter over, but it keeps discharging my battery today
Never had it before ?
If you go to onto the GivEnergy Cloud Portal, click My Inverter then Remote Control (cog icon). Click the Goto Logs button in the top left corner. You should be able to see in the logs what set the discharge.
I think s something to with the app, as I can change the settings with the app on my phone but the not on the cloud/portal web site ?
It tells me it’s locked.
You should still be able to jump to, or scroll down to the logs to see which app is controlling / locking your inverter.
Hi, as stated you should still be able to read the logs.
Take a look at this post it may help. Recent powercut/surge now inverter locked message?
Ok I’ve looked and it says API server took control.
I’ve cancelled all tokens but I’m still locked out.
How do I cancel and take back control ?
I have the same issue at the moment. For me it was an Axle power event and now one of my inverters is locked. Nothing we can do, need to contact support.
Ok that makes sense.
Axle energy was one of the API tokens I deleted.
Now I’ve deleted the API token how do I get back control of my inverter?
Did you contact Axel energy or GivEnergy?
Did you delete the token while the inverter was locked? I did that, in haste. I should of waited until they released it and then removed the token. I am currently messaging Ivan to try and get this fixed.
Yes I did ![]()
I think I should have waited like you say.
I’ll message him as well to see what can be done.
Thank you for your advice
I can suddenly control my inverter again… Not heard from anyone so no idea who fixed it but its fixed.
I have the same issue, which is great, and no message to indicate why it has happened. They really need to disable or remove the whole locked thing ability. Who thought it was a good idea to allow this?
I thought it was the gateway, so allowed the firmware update, only for it to reset, drop power to the house, and short my garage where the battery is, now I am unable to open the garage door, I assume something must have shorted something in the garage. What a lovely mess.
After pushing for clear answers, here’s what was ultimately confirmed:
- GivEnergy will not remove the API lock, even if the system owner directly requests it.
- There is no user-accessible override, once a third party applies a control lock via API, you’re stuck unless they choose to release it.
- This lock is not disclosed in any user-facing terms, API documentation, or tariff signup process.
- The lock doesn’t just limit Octopus automation, it also blocks access for other platforms like Home Assistant, Node-RED, MQTT, local access and custom integrations.
- As it stands, I, the owner of the system, have no control over a product I purchased.
