I’ve got an inverter which has an inbuilt dongle but unfortunately it’s stopped working
I have completed a previous post and had so much support but I think the comms on it is faulty
I have purchased a new wi fi dongle for about £40
Can someone please explain to me how exactly I set the new dongle up? Do I take it out of the box, put it into my laptop and copy the serial number from the inverter and change the msn.txt file on the new dongle to what the serial number is of the inverter?
Then plug the new dongle into the usb of the hy5 inverter then connect via my phone or laptop through wi fi connections and go into the settings of the ip address and search for local wi fis?
Is that generally it?

That sounds about right.
Plus there’s some dipswitches that need to be changed to swap from inbuilt WiFi to dongle.
Search for the installer guide via Google to get the details.
You have to power off the unit, wait till the light go out, change the dip switches, then switch it on again.
This was posted a while ago. It relates to the dip switch positions. Switch settings for built-in Wifi/USB dongle/LAN on Hybrid Gen 3 hope it helps to get you online.

Did you just change the text in MSN.txt to the old dongle serial number?? I’ve seen people say to copy the file but it only seems to have the serial number - so my plan is to have one spare and change it to the dongle serial number if one of mine dies- would that work to save me having to take them off the inverters now and copy the file off?

I opened up the dongle on my laptop and literally opened that file which opens as a text file and changed it to my current inverter serial number
Then I plugged it into inverter, accessed the settings and found my local wi fi from the guide and it worked
My inverters had a built in wi fi and dongle but it only now works since I used the external dongle.
You could buy a spare as a back up but I’m sure if you ever needed a new one you could get it from eBay in a few days and just make sure you’ve got your inverter serial number to hand
